| What's the best final finish for a lure? I was just going through the ole' box looking at my favorite lures & noticing the damage from teeth, hooks, rocks, banging around in the boat, etc. Now I've got my hooks T'D (thanks Jason).
I saw a recent post asking about Tru-Oil. It's the only finish I use on my gun stocks and it's pretty labor intensive. Will it work on top of a lure paint job?
What about those spinners w/ colored blades? My ToddM "hot pink hooker" blade looks like it has a case of the white measles.
Also saw another post about using Envirotex w/ barbecue rotisserie motor. Sounds like good idea. But would seem to be long process (good winter project for us northwood's guys.) Don't remember who posted it-but could you re-post it here? A photo of your setup would be great. (Heck maybe you can start your own cottage industry.)
Is there a "bullet proof" coating that we can use on our lures?

| While not perfect, Envirotex is still the best coating I've come across that produces a nice, clear hard finish, but you need to put on at least two coats and follow the directions regarding mixing, etc. to the letter. I apply it with a disposable brush, like a plumber's brush, and have advanced from BBQ rotisseries (which don'thold upt long enough) to some heavier duty very slow turning motors still rigged up to BBQ spits to hold the lures. I know several guys who just manually turn their luresevery few minutes to avoid drips and runs which is fine, but you get a better finish with a constant slow turning. You can find the stuff at Menards and other stores. I've tried the polyurethane that you put on wood floors, and some other products that are easier to work with, but envirotex is still the best. Someone mentioned a product used in patching fiberglass that might be worth a try, but I haven't come across it, yet. Good luck. |

| I aggree with Gman but, If you let the envirotex set mixed for about 30 to 40 minutes ( I do it in the basement so it is a little cooler) it does not run off so much, you only have to turn them once or twice. Do not wait to long that it gets to stiff that it gets hard to work with.
