This is not necessarily a question when musky fishing, but in other species scenarios, what kind/size anchor do you prefer using. i don't like the current one i have and only need it a few times a year, but for those few times want something that i can rely on! i'm looking at this Richter Anchor...... thoughts?

I used anchors a bunch while walleye fishin' on Mille Lacs , and my 2 on board were a Richter and a Water Spike. 125' of rope and a 5' section of rubber coated chain. Good to go! Of the 2, I liked the Richter best.

I am learning to love my new anchor: iPilot!

Depending on wind and current the boat may dance arount a bit but I learned if I drop my Richtor off the back and run "Spot Lock" on the iPilot I stay pretty stationary.

If it is calm or the current is constant "Spot Lock" keeps me anchored in place.

I guess there will be times when only my double Richtors will keep me perfectly still.

I've got a similar setup as Jonesi. I don't use them much, but when I do, the Richter does a great job!

Funny you say that CrappieKid, i just ordered a Terrova with I-Pilot on my new boat. That thought of maybe not really needing an anchor with the spot lock was something that crossed my mind (except those rare situations).

I fished with a guide on Pool 4 this year that hated his Richter anchor. Said it would not hold in stronger current. He was going to go with the digger anchor when he got a chance.

I've been in search of an anchor as well, and think I am leaning towards the digger at the moment.

Before this question can be properly answered you need to know what type of bottom you will encounter. Mud, rock and sand all require different anchor types to be effective.

Richter has been my favorite by far. As far as weight goes, get the heaviest.

river anchors hold very well in current and get the heaviest you can find.

I have two 28 lb river anchors for use beneath dams, one off each side each with a stand up electrical cord wrap up holder to keep the extra rope nice an tidy. I like the river anchors as they seem to dig a bit more and hold even in the strongest current.

The digger was fine as long as you don’t have to anchor in plain ‘ole sand. That anchor basically needed something to “grab” onto. Loved it for around logs/cribs as it as it “broke” away to release it from the jam. Trying to use it for crappie and walleye when it got windy was a pain as I usually was over a sand bottom.

I am now looking for a new anchor as well due to a mishap with my clip on the rope opening up last year.

I am leaning towards the Richter.

the guy I bought my boat from used to river fish,he put dumbells on the anchor to make them heavier,he had 2 of them which are now mine.I haven`t used them since I`ve had the boat, but I`m sure they would work good,I would just worry about getting snagged on something and having to cut the rope.
