Anyone have experience with these? I beach my boat quite a bit (generally very gently) and am wondering if this will work for me.

Other suggestions?

Anyone know how much it costs to get the regular Hamby's installed? They don't give prices on their website.

I just bought a new boat that didn't have a keel guard. If a Hamby's is installed at the factory it was around $400, if the dealer adds after the fact $800 since it needs to be glassed in. Since I didn't want to pay $800 the dealer is adding a different one for $250... I think it is just installed w/ adhesive... this might be the "light" version you are speaking off. I hope it works!! I'm picking my boat up in a few days and I'll let you know how it looks.

i made the mistake (twice) of adding a different aftermarket one. they are also expensive and i think around $300.00. doesn't take much and doesn't take long before it rips and once it rips it runs and is a total pain in the a$$!! now that you have a ripped one you have to decide if you want to peel and grind it off and hurt your gel-coat ... and are pretty much forced to put another one on ... and it can go on and on and on and on and on again.

the cost to repair it if you damage it is better than putting anything but a hamby on your boat.

biggest mistake in 20 years of owning a boat!!

i told this to the guy who bought my boat and he has since put a hamby's on and i think he's happy that he did.

I got quoted prices ranging from $550 to $850 for the actual Hamby's. Gonna put the real deal on.

Not stealing the thread but how does the Megaware - Keel Guard compare to the Hamby's? I was planning on personally installing the Keel Guard brand on my boat this summer.

I had a hambys light on my boat that had peeled back from the adhesive, but the adhesive was definetly not coming off the boat. I was irate yes, but after talking to Roger at Hamby he explained why the problem happened. He sent me a new one, for free. I just removed the old one off my boat and with out reading up on the best way to remove one, it would have taken forever to remove it and I mean forever. After getting a stiff/sharp putty knife, some solvent, goof off and a torch I had it off and the hull prepped for the next one in one hour. I know that sounds crazy but a red hot putty knife peeled that adhesive right off, and with a careful hand I caused no damage to my glass hull. The Goof off removed the sticky residue left over. There are thousands off hambys light owners out there and they are a great keel guard. Dont be afraid to go with the Light Duty. From what I understand following the instructions to a T is what will make it last forever or not. Either way adding any Hambys is the best bet to add to protect your keel.
