Location: Muskegon Michigan | Once again we were treated to open water at the very end of our season on several smaller Musky lakes. Sunday the 14th found my wife and I fishing a lake in southwestern Michigan. We had open water and water temps at 41 to 42 degrees. We had an exceptional day using twitch /pause type lures. 6 muskies found the net with my wife landing a nice 45 inch pre spawn female. Sizes were 30 , 31, 32,37, 40 and 45. We casted shallow for two and got the rest casting up on the breaks in 6 to 8 feet of water. Slow presentations with soft taps on both Crane 205's and Talonz Little Claws produced all 6 fish. Location: Grand Rapids, MI | Took some flack? That's just stupid! I would have thought you would have got more negative feedback for posting a report on a 150 acre lake and not because you said that a nearly 5000 acre lake has muskies in it.

Let me try... Hamlin Lake by Ludington was first stocked in 2005 @ 2.5/acre, again in 2006 @ 1/acre and again in 2008 at 2.5/acre. The fish are still small, only 5YO and probably not really worth the effort at this point. Eventually it should be a decent fishery and we're hoping that we'll see some natural reproduction. |

And people here are against that many.

That stocking level is only to get the lake jump started with hope of natural reproduction. It's now only going to get 1/acre every other year and that will be evaluated based on any proof of natural reproduction. |

Location: Muskegon Michigan | chuckles, I forget how many people here in Michigan are still trying to keep our fishery a secret. I mean we have near a hundred bodies of water with muskies in them. Not like Wisconsin or Minnesota but we have some fisheries. I was just asked to remove the lake names by someone who fishes the lakes I mentioned. I respect them enough to edit the post. I cant Imagine anyone flocking to the little puddle to hit it from any distance and we all know whats in there. Heck , half chapter 47 doesnt even fish it because the launch stinks. This post has nothing to do with selling lures. It was a post about ice out twitching. slow presentations and 42 degree water temps . I mentioned the Crane 205 one of my favorite go to twitch baits. A 6 fish day is tremendous any time of the year on any body of water. To do it on the second to last day of our season one day after ice out was reason enough to share some tactics with the rest of the musky world. My wife is a past Muskies inc womens division champion and deserves recognition for her achievements. She is as good as any woman in the world and better than many men. Great mechanics and a world class hook set on big fish. Will knows I get a little excited at times . But yes Hamlin will be a great fishery in few years. It has all the potential to grow some real pigs. It will be my home lake as it is the closest musky water to my house until we stock Mona Lake in Muskegon. Location: Muskegon Michigan | I can fish anywhere , we have roller trailors for both boats whoohaaa haaa. I can launch my 18 foot starcraft in 12 inches of water( at the hubs) all I need to do is get my bearings submerged. kf |
