Going up this way for a wedding in August and would like to sneak in a day of fishing. Does anyone know of any good lakes to fish or guides to hire?
Appreciate any help you can give

I have heard that the St. Marys river is pretty good... anyone know of a good guide up that way?

Tahquamenon river is a good spot too. S. Manistique Lake if you don't mind the drive.

Esox on the fly thanks for the reply. The Tahquamenon looks a little far from where I am staying. Still looking for a guide for the St. Marys. Hopefully August is a good time to fish that body of water.

Bert Reimer I think guides up there out of the Munoscong River.

Bert is retired from what I have heard. My choice would be Steve Horton, 30+ years of experience chasing muskies on the St Marys. His number is 906-553-1181

I called the number. The guy I talked to said he doesn't guide and the number must be wrong.

There are a few lakes on the east side like south Manistique but I dont think anyone is still guiding up there. I was licensed for the whole state back in the 90's but retired from guiding in 2002. Most of the Upper pen fishermen are very protective of the few meager lakes they have to fish up there. I would check into renting a boat on South Manistique or try finding a guide that works that lake. Good luck. Kingfisher

Here is a place on the St. Marys River where you can rent a boat and they can also hook you up with a guide. Good luck, Mike

Here is some info on musky fishing here in Eastern UP waters:

http://www.michigansportsmanmag.com/fishing/muskies-pike-fishing/mi...

I used to fish Brevoort as a kid and I remember catching a few which were probably a result of stocking done in 1979. DNR planted 1420 fish in 1994, not sure how well they have done. Whatever fish would be left from that planting would could be 50" class but population would likely be pretty sparse. Don't hear much about them being caught there.
