Can anyone recommend a good destination for first time muskie anglers in Wisconsin? Live in Appleton and would like to spend a weekend camping and muskie fishing somewhere in the state. Have the stuff to do it just never spent the time doing it. Thanks!

lots of choices mike. in my area there are about a zillion, so i could choose a bunch. the first choice that comes to mind is to go to camp on butternut or franklin lakes east of eagle river for the quality of their sites ... and then i'd fish kentuck and the sugar-camp chain which are both a reasonable distance from that campground.

my second choice again for quality of campsites would be on north trout lake and then fish any number of lakes including trout but over in the sayner and boulder area.

good luck on your choice! ...

There is a really nice camp ground along with good muskie fishing on Big Lake which is a few miles WNW of Boulder Junction. Nice size camp sites, clean and generally pretty quiet. Big lake has good structure and some nice fish. Look in the 50 Best Muskie Lakes in Wisconsin book-Joe Bucher wrote the narrative about Big Lake.

There's a nice campground a mile from my place on Lake George. LOTS of good water in the area, if you decide to try other lakes, and I'm a mile away nd happy to help you get on some fish.

I would suggest looking into Solberg in Price Co. It's not in the heart of tourist country and is easy to fish. It's campground is operated by the county.
