Location: Stones throw away...finally!! | I am looking for suggestions for a couple of decent two-piece trolling rods that are around 9 ft or so. I have all my casting needs covered, but just a little nervous about putting my high dollar casting set ups in a rod holder. I would also ask for suggestions on trolling reels to go with them. As I don't troll very often, I'm not looking for top of the line, just something that will be sufficient for trolling anything from depth raiders to 10" jakes. Not sure if it matters, but I don't use planer boards. I would prefer cork grips, but if the price is right, would entertain foam. Maybe I should just get some catfish rods...?

Location: Des Moines IA | I use Okuma Magda Reels, affordable, bullet proof, and they have line counters! I use a couple of different Okuma trolling rods as well. There's a 10 ft "Mooching" rod that will pull everything from DR's, and Jakes as well as bigger stuff like perchbaits, and maybe even plows. If you're not going to run the big stuff, their 9'6 Dipsey Diver rod runs regular sized muskie baits very well, and is very affordable. I use Shimano TDRs for the smaller stuff. |

| Shimano TDRs. around $30 each last time I looked at them. Plenty of people use these with downrigger balls for salmon on Lake Michigan. Much worse beating than draggin musky baits around.

Location: neenah, wisconsin | check out his tackle box for the 8" ft tdr rods last time they were 30/pce and the shipping was free...have to call and see if they are still available,,,worth the price and work well....8ft heavy...good luck |

| I would also suggest the Shimano TDR. I have the 8' heavy and I've pulled everything from depthraiders to 14" jakes, although it is probably better suited to jakes in the 10" range. The rods are super affordable and strong. They are a bit spongy, which I've really liked for banging cranks off rocks. It seems to give the bait time to back out of rocks and not hang up as often. All in all, I don't think you can go wrong with a MH or H TDR. I would not go with the medium.

Location: SE, WI. | Like foam handles for trolling. Exits the rod holders faster and easier.
Shimano tekota's line counters for trolling, Awesome reels. Spend the money for these. Well worth it for trolling. |
