Posts: 254 Location: In the cabbage | I was wondering what a good reel for really burning DCG(10-13) that has a release button. I cant get use to the shimano trinidad (buddy has one). It also needs to be Left Handed. Any suggestions would be great as well as a suggestion for a good rod to pair it with!! Chris Edited by shotgunlew 2/23/2010 9:59 AM

Posts: 375 | unless i missed it, i am amazed that some one has yet to market the exact animal that you described! until that day comes, in a heavy duty, light weight, left-handed, smaller diameter side plated reel that can blow db 10's out of the water with very little effort, it's the american made avet sx 2 speed...

Posts: 375 | they are two reels in one! depending on how full you fill the spool, 36" plus per crank in high gear (which easily burns db 10's for me) and around 20" per crank in low gear (which i think is about what the revo winch model does). why spend the coin for two reels!

I have an avet mxl in a lefty and like it. I have a lot of use on mine and it is still in great shape. If I understand correctly the bearings will be noisy because of the salt water design and for cleaning. My Avet has rumbled from day one. I have never had a mechanical problem yet.

I probably should add to my above post. I beat the tar out of my equipment. This is the first reel that has held up to what I have put it through. It is not a quiet or smooth reel at all. It has been very durable and erodynamic for the way I fish. That I like.

Location: Kanata, Ontario | I am looking for a reel for DBs as well. I am looking at the Shimano Takota 600 (the non LC model). Anyone tried these??

Anyone tried these?? I wouldn't waste my time. I owned one last season and sold it last fall. Too big, too heavy, and not enough line retrieve to be good for dbl's. If you want a levelwind look into the saltist.

I use the tekota 600s for jerk baits. They do not make this unit in a lefty to my knowledge. It will reel in a big blade with ease but it is not real fast for burning and as said it is a bit big unless you have giant hands or foregrip your rod.

Location: Kanata, Ontario | Most of the guys I know use Abu 7000s or Calcuttas. I tried a Curado but it just doesn't have the power. Great reel but the gear ratio is too high. I am over 60 and don't do too much burning any more. I think that I will be stuck with using a round reel and will force myself to foregrip.

Posts: 742 Location: Grand Rapids MN | I may have to pull the trigger on a MX this summer. Hate to buy a "single specific" set up but I'm sure its worth it. Edited by Targa01 3/12/2010 11:16 PM

Posts: 380 Location: Michigan | I am not a fan of the lever on the avets, and I wish they had a level wind model, but they are rock solid. In a lefty, for your purpose, I don't think there are many other options. Unless you go for the Saltiga 30L. A freind just picked one up and it is a beautiful reel. Not sure on durability?

Posts: 458 | I'm the guy with the Daiwa Saltiga 30L and I just found a small piece of water to throw some double tens. I really like the reel and got used to engaging the lever after about 10 casts. It weighs 16.8 ounces and brings in about 35" of line per crank. The double ten I threw came back to me pretty fast and alot faster than my Calcutta 401TE with a power handle. Not having a level wind has not been an issue and the line (80lb Invisabraid) seems to lay down nicely without me guiding it. So far it seems great and I am heading to Cave Run in a couple of weeks and will really get a chance to try it properly. Good luck! http://www.daiwa.com/Reel/detail.aspx?ID=59 Edited by edalz 3/14/2010 9:04 AM
