Hey everyone. I have a question, i have been fishing Vermillion for the last few years for musky every late July and was wondering out of the three lakes listed with Cass-MN, Chippewa-WI or St. Clair-MI which one you think would be a good lake to hit up for Muskie? I want to try something new and will be coming from NW Indiana. Any thoughts?

Posts: 335 Location: Minnesota | I wonder how many people have actually fished all three waters. I could tell you about Cass but I have no clue about the other 2 other than what I have read on here and other places.

If you've never fished the Detroit River or St. Clair, that is THE place.

It's a great casting fishery too, but this watershed wasn't "designed" for casting. Our structure here is a slight drop off from 6' to 8' and weeds...and that's about it. There are pieces of structure and some interesting places to fish, but I know several MN/WI muskie casters who consider LSC a boring fishery. I'm 100% casting, but I often times long for the back bays, reefs, points and islands that are in MN/WI/Canada. Think of LSC as a big sandy bowl of weeds. That's an oversimplification, but that paints the picture. For jigging or trolling especially, the fishery really comes into it's own. Trolling LSC, it's not uncommon to hear of 15+ fish days, with two 50's in the boat. Jigging isn't a numbers game, but there are some massive fish in the river.

Posts: 921 | I have many hours on Cass and the Chippewa Flowage, but nothing on St. Clair. The Chip is so beautiful with very few cabins lining the lakeshore. If I were to go on a serious fishing trip and had to choose between Cass and The Chip, I would choose Cass 100% of the time. I have had some luck on The Chip, but my opinion is that the numbers and size of fish are better on Cass. Just my .$02. Ball Cap

Posts: 162 Location: Bemidji, MN | The nice thing about Cass is that it is within 20 miles of several other great musky lakes. Bemidji,Plantagenet, Big,Little wolf. So you have options. Although you can be pretty overwhelmed when you think about it that way. I don't have much to say about Vermillion, as I have only spent 3 days there, but it was pretty crowded, especially for such a big lake. Never been to st clair. I am kind of biased towards the Cass area. If you need a place to stay, I recommend Norway Beach Resort.
