Evidently the WI DNR wants public input on muskie management for the waters of Green Bay. Here's a link: http://new.wtaq.com/news/articles/2010/feb/07/dnr-wants-public-inpu...

Posts: 714 Location: Rhinelander, WI | What has happened with the 54” size limit this year in Conservation Congress committees? I know it passed two years in a row at the CC level, is the WDNR going to actually add it to the ballot as a rule change questions this year? Just curious I haven’t paid much attention this year, as I have been dealing with our own CC problems concerning Pelican Lake. Nail A Pig! Mike

Posts: 1185 Location: Wishin I Was Fishin' | I believe it is an informative meeting to let the public know that the musky strategy (goals) will be changed to "establish a trophy based musky fishery" I will be there

I hope the 54" sizelimit for Green Bay Muskies happens very soon.We have 54" sizelimit for Lake Erie & Buffalo Harbor, but were to late getting the sizelimit change. Just like at Green Bay muskie fishermen from many miles and states away traveled to the Buffalo Harbor for a chance to catch a monster muskie. Before we got the 54" sizelimit lots of 50"+ muskies were bonked and taken as trophies by those visiting fishermen. The fishery will see a very big decline soon without having the 54" sizelimit. Posts: 124 | Thanks Ken. Please inform me... is this the first meeting that has been called by DNR reps where they are looking for the public opinions on the fishery? Am I right by saying the other meetings held were for public information? Please discuss someone? Thanks, Lee Tauchen http://LeeTauchen.com

Posts: 574 Location: Elk Grove Village, IL & Phillips, WI | Lee, I received an email from David Rowe about a month ago as he was trying to set this meeting up. This is the first time they are looking for input for the rewritting of the management plan. There have been meetings in the past, both informational and looking for input from fishermen, but this is the start of the "official" rewritting of the plan. I'm not sure where the 54 inch limit lies. I know they are looking to switch gears from re-establishing the population to creating a trophy fisheree. I see no reason why Green Bay can't be as good as the St. Lawrence or other Great Lakes musky fisherees. here is a copy and paste of his email: Hi all: I am trying to figure out when would be the best day and time to hold the initial meeting for rewriting the Green Bay Spotted Muskellunge Management plan. I am wondering if a weeknight, or weekend would be better. I am imaging the first meeting will take 3-4 hours of time. At this first meeting I hope to clarify the issues and establish a framework for how to put the plan together. Please let me know if you or members of your club are interested in participating, and what time of the week works best for you.
