Posts: 338 | I am in the market to purchase a good "all around use" reel and was looking for some feedback and likes/dislikes of some reels. I have fished Abu Garcia, Shimano Catala, Corsair and the okuma indurons and all have eventually failed and are now just trolling reels and Catfish reels. I am looking at the Daiwa Luna, Shimano Cardiff and the Shimano Calcutta 401 TE. The Cardiff is obvious the cheaper of the three with the Luna and the Calcutta being pretty pricey. I want a good reel , but find it hard to justify paying $400 for a reel. Is the Calcutta that great of a ree to justify it. The Luna looks to be a pretty good reel for a $100 cheaper and the Cardiff's are only $120. I am still undecided on the reels. I am a caster and throw a variety of baits from big Jerks, DCG's, T-Bones, Suicks, to small cranks. Any input and opinions and feedback will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Roger

Posts: 375 | i just put two daiwa luna 301's into back-up status last fall after never having one single repair or issue with them after five years of use. just wanted to give my hands a break with the low profile curado 301's. for db 10's i use the left handed avet sx 2 speed reel. both on the pricier side but worth it. of those two the curado would fit the "all-around" part better though... Posts: 458 | I have the 401TE and Toro and they are good reels. If you are going to throw alot of double 10's I would get the 401TE with a power handle and if not, you may want to look at the Toro 61. Consider buying from a place that has a 90 day return policy (like Cabelas) and that way if you do not like it you could return it for something else.

Posts: 1023 | my buddy has 2 curados and they are very nice!! They will do almost anything (reel DCG okay but will it last?) and are very comfortable. I have 3 cardiffs and they are still running after 5 years or about 100 muskie days whereas my abus are always acting up in some way and requiring new parts... Cardiffs are great reels for the money. My only beef with them is that the line guide sits too low so when you fill your spool right up the line has to angle down to get off the reel - causing more friction and shorter casts. Landry

Posts: 897 | I've owned a Corvalus, two Record 61's, a TE 401 and a Revo Toro 61HS. The best all purpose reel I've owned is easily the TE 401. I bought mine on Ebay for $279 brand new a couple summers ago. Now they go for $329 on Ebay. I really like the Revo Toro 61HS as a second reel, gives me the option of speed and is a great reel for jerkbaits and gliders. I have burned double-10's on it. Can't do it all day but man can you get speed. Revo Toro's go for around $210 on Ebay. The Corvalus is a good beginner lefty reel that can withstand quite a bit of abuse. I beat the hell out of my 4 year old Corvalus for a week up on Eagle and it took it like a champ. DON'T buy a Record. They suck and will break...at least the way I use them. Spend the extra money and get a top of the line reel and maintain it. You won't regret it.
