Keith at Dutch fork custom lure painting is going to put his magic touch on a couple for me and needs to know the type of wood thats used! I'll post pics. when they're finished! If you guys haven't seen Keith's work, Google dutchfork lures and check it out! The dudes amazing! He does chrome work that actually stays on the lures! Thanks...Brian

Will Suick be making them out of the poplar like Mojo or maple like Cady? Hope they build em like the originals.

Posts: 3240 Location: Racine, Wi | I hope they keep them just the way the are. I love the "Cady" weagles for sure, but my Mojo weagles are torn to shreds as well, so they both work just as good as the other.

Posts: 2089 | Tough to do them in Maple when you order 1000 blanks and only 200(maybe) can be used to make Weagles due to weight issues. Going through 1000+ blanks and weighing each one on a gram scale is pretty time consuming as well. The "originals" had to fall between xxx grams and xxx grams or they became Wabulls.

Posts: 32886 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Steve Suick knows how to build a bait, and has enough advice from those who fish the Weagle to make sure what he offers meets and exceeds expectations. About 1 out of 3 'Cady' Weagles did what I want. All of Baldy's performed nicely. I bet Suick's will, too.

Sounds like a rip on Cady Weagles to me, Steve.

Posts: 32886 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | That's ridiculous. I used them and loved them as you could tell if you bothered to look at the history (MuskieFIRST was responsible for an awful lot of Weagle and Wabull sales, Bman), but had quite a few that didn't work like I wanted them to well because of what was described by Steve Jonesi. Was an issue with the hardwood models, and that's why baldy went to a different material.

Posts: 2089 | Actually, Cady went to Poplar just before Baldy and I bought the rights to manufacture them. Good move and MUCH more consistent. I have no doubt Steve and the folks at Suick will do the baits(and their history) very proud. Top notch people with a top notch product line.

I heard the suicks people will be making them out of plastic?

Posts: 941 Location: Freedom, WI | Considering Steve is going to a lot of bother to make the wood ones the right way I do not think that will happen. Do not confuse them with the baby ones that are plastic.

Well I had a few of the first original baits from the Palo "explosion" when the Weagle's talents were basically discovered, and have always had more consistent luck on the early Cady baits, they rode better in big waves than the Mojos, and you can get more of that "swoosh" from the maple baits as they rode lower in the water than most of my Mojos do...HUGE difference in my opinion. Density of the wood is the key, I think. Hopefully Suick will make them from Maple, but I'm guessing they won't due to production efficiencies. I think the guys that stick by the Mojos never owned one of the early Cady Weagles...big difference IMHO.

I think most people would agree that there is a difference in the action of the baits, but they are just saying that the mojo baits still catch lots of fish.

Roger B you are so right, after you had a Cady - Weagle the Mojo was a total different bait, not the same swoosh.

I've got both, and I've actually hung up the Cady weagles now and only use the Mojo weagles. They both work and I've caught plenty of fish on both types, but my Mojos get the green light now while the Cady weagles were retired after doing their jobs. I still have one of the old original weagles that Kly gave to me. That one's never hit the water outside from him throwing it. Not risking loosing that one.
