Location: Sycamore, IL | I have a couple of questions that I hoped you folks could answer for me. I am thinking about getting an abu garcia 7000 series reel and will be using it for large bucktails/ rubber...here is my question: is there a better reel for this application that is $150 or less? and if not which 7000 series reel should I get(i, ic3, hsn big game)? I picked up a Gander Mountain 8'6 heavy action rod on sale this weekend and thought that this would make a good combo...what do you think?

| Look on E-Bay and buy an older 7000. It will have the push button instead of the lever. I think you will like it better as it is similar to the reels you now use. The 4.1 retrieve ratio will be better for big baits and it will be cheaper. I have bought a number of 7000s off E-bay with great results. I think the older reels are great.

Location: Minnesota | I have a few 7000 iC3 reels and I like them. You don't need to find the old ones to get good reels either. Take care of them and they will be just fine. |

Location: Bemidji, MN | try to find one that you can put on a rod and see if your hand fits around it. I have 2 7000i c3's that have been primarily used for sturgeon because i find them too big for casting. They have proven to be pretty bullet proof. |

Location: Sycamore, IL | Thanks for the info...is it better to get the 3 bearing reel(silver) or to get the 1 bearing(red)? They look like they both have the same gear ratio...also does it take long to get used to the release lever on the new reels, or should I try to find one used with a push button?

Location: Mt. Zion, IL | Try to find one with a push button. I blew up 6 lever reels in 3 months. The lever is the biggest mistake Garcia ever made and I live and die by their reels. I have never broken a push button 7000 reel. Swedish quality well exceeds the Chinese. |
