| guys, need some help priming some new wood gliders i am working on. what primers do you guys recommend? thanks in advance, cant wait to finish some and post some pics. want to know what you guys think!! thx |

| first use a sealer. then theres choices of primers. some use kilz, we use lacquer primers after sanding sealers. |

Location: Hugo, MN | I just tried some of that Mighty Putty that Billy Mays used to pitch. I used it to fill around the lead after I poured it into the bodies. It sets up in about a half hour, and sands down easily. When you spray the sealer on you can barely see where you weighted the bait. Not bad stuff as far as infomercial junk goes. |

| I use BarrierCoat by Sherwin Williams. It's a sealer and primer in one. You can brush it, spray it or dip it. I do a double dip, and after that it's like painting on an egg shell. Breathing protection is a must, so if you do your painting in the house, this isn't the stuff for you. How good of a sealer is it? We used to prime cast iron pipes with it at the water utility that I used to work for. Doesn't sound like a big deal, does it? Well, just figure that we used it to stop the pipes from sweating so we could color code them with a second coat. It's not cheap, and you have to buy 5 gallons at a time. You can split it with a buddy or just put the lid on and use it again and again. I've been on the same bucket for 3 years and it's just as thin as it was the first day that I opened it. Great stuff.

Oh, for fillers and just about anything else that you can imagine for working with wood and more, go to www.abatron.com For filler I use WoodEpox. As they say, "A machinable, shrink-free, structurable adhesive paste that replaces rotted or missing wood indoors and out." It is incredible how strong this stuff is. Check out their site. They have lots of stuff that belongs on the shelves here in the basement.
