What does everyone think is the best "cheap" rod at show?? By cheap I mean $100-$130. Lot of rods out now. I am leaning towards the Tackle Ind or the Okuma with telescoping handle. 8'6"h. Being able to transport at under 8' is a huge plus for me. What does everybody think??

I think the Okuma is a much better choice then the Compre....Theres also a few other products out right now I am not familiar with but I have used the Okumas and very much liked how they performed

The Okuma is a good solid rod for the money (I have one, 8'6" XXH). If you really need it to break down for transporting, it's the probably the best choice for you. If you can get away with longer I would highly suggest stopping by Mike Hulbert's booth, and checking out his 9' Armor Rod. I held one today and was quite impressed how light the blank was, by far the lightest in it's price range (130.00). If I didn't have enough sticks already, I would of jumped on one. Stop by Mike's booth & check it out.

My 6 lines of Tackle Industries rods are in the Dutch Fork Custom Lures booth if you want to go hold one and see it. He has only 12 I think but 2 of each length and power. Keith will fix you up Great Show Price on them!

Tackle Industries is a great rod, outstanding quality that offers two different rod handles, 8'6"+ 9'0", broken down she stores at 8'0". This one (I have) is a XH rated at 3-12. Check them out !

Tooth Tamer Rods has a booth at the show and the rods are also available at Rollie and Helens and Kurt's Island. These rods are definitely something to check out. They are also right in your price range.

Here is a short video of the new Tackle Industries rods at the Chicago show with Keith from Dutch Fork Lures booth:

On the Okuma rah rah. I can not say enough about my Red Isis reel with the power handle. If you can find one at the show get it!! For feel and "crankability" with the power handle I put it up against my TE400. For durability I still need to use it a few more years. Fantastic reels. Sorry, I have not used one of their rods yet to comment.

The Okuma 8'6" telescoping rod is by far the easiest rod I ever had to transport period.

This is how I transport mine I put a 1/4" rubber band on the leader snap and close the snap where you usually hook your lure, slide the telescoping rod down into the handle and reel up the slack line leaving a slight amount of drag tension on the reel so the line can't work itself loose. The next step is to take the rubber band and slide it over the reel handle with the handle facing the tip of the rod. If the tension is right the pole stays put inside the handle and the rubber band retains a constant pressure on the rod and line so the rubber band actually acts like a miniature shock absorber.

I love my Okuma rod also!
Works like a charm for me!
Scott

Tooth Tamer Rods are tough as nails and still lightweight.
