I have been trying to find out, with no luck, if an Abu Garcia Toro power handle will fit on a Shimano Calcutta 400 TE reel. Anyone out there with both a Toro and TE, or anyone with access to try it out? Or, does anyone know if the Shimano power handle is counter-weighted to prevent mid cast engagement? Thanks for the help.

The shimano is countreweighted but mine engauged mid cast 3 times and each time I had to send it back becaus it would tear out the pinion gear.

Was that on the standard TE or the LJV? Thanks.

My counterwieghted Shimano handle on my TE has never engaged midcast, not sure how that would happen once let alone three times.

How can a reel engage midcast when your thumb is planted on the thumbar while thumbing the spool?

The weight of the handle and its position of the power handle when you cast it will do it. My 7000's have done it a few times. makes for a awful noise and check your response time with the rod in your hand. Luckily I haven't dropped the rod in the water yet doing it.
