A reel that can HANDLE Musky fishing and you don't have to break the bank to own one. I have never had a reel that will hold up to the rigors of musky fishing. Just my 2 cents.

A one piece sideplate with a drop in anti-reverse bearing so that if it fails, it can be changed easily.

side button, not thumb bar for casting thumb bars can get hit on hooksets and a real that doesn't slip or backreel after a full day out in the rain

A Trinidad with a level wind would be awesome.

An old style 7001 with IAR and 4:1 gears would be a good start. A narrow bodied version too, like the HSN, but with 4:1 gears. Sweet!

Bigger high effieciency gears would be a definite improvement too, and if it could all be made a bit lighter I'd be a very happy bunny.

However it ended up, a left handed version is mandatory.

I second Fishboy's request... a Trinidad 14 with levelwind would be the ultimate musky fishing reel.
