Just wondering if anyone uses a cage or a pen, to keep suckers over night in the lake.
If so, what do you use and where might I find one?

Thanks

We use one of these http://www.keenzo.com/showproduct.asp?M=WESTON_50-0102-W&ID=3326742 Used to sell them at Cabelas, but I don't see them anymore. They make several different sizes, and they are easy to transport since they collapse.

Otters will chew through the mesh if they are present (I didn't realize they did until after I dumped 12 $5.00 suckers in) Go buy a portable pet kennel and put a rock inside so it stays put.

Rollies has them. We got the Medium. I believe my brother bought the kit, it was less because you have to put it together.

Never had an issue with muskrats or otters chewing on it in the three years we've used it.

No, I can't see them chewing through the wire mesh, just stay away from anything that has a cloth/fabric mesh.

I just use one of those big tupperware storage bins and drilled a bunch of holes in it. $5.00 and works great

I'd go for a metal cage, with a door you can actually latch or wire shut somehow. Otherwise, otters will get in there. Crafty little devils, they are.

I know it may sound funny but a small dog cage works really good. You can find one for $20 are cheaper probably. Just tie a rope to it and toss in the water. Open the door put you suckers in, latch it shut, bam you got a sucker cage. something like this works good.

We have been using a pet carrier, just like that for years, works great. To weight ours we took to pieces of PVC pipe and filled with concrete and strapped to the side.

They work great until a pike or muskie decides to swim in them. I had left my 5 suckers in a basket overnight, came back next morning and there was 4 suckers left and a pike about 25" in the basket as well.

I went to Pet Smart yesterday and bought a hard plastic pet carrier with a metal door...$19. Looks like it will work great.

I like this idea. I an in Carbondale and buying suckers is not possible anywhere within 3 hours. I am thinking of bringing some down from the Chicago area. How long will suckers live in a cage like this? My only experience penning "bait" fish is pinfish and mullet in saltwater and how long they last depends on high good the tidal flow is in the area they are kept. I am guessing the water temperature will be 45-50 when I would have the suckers penned.
