Tried one out for the first time this Saturday and went 0 for 3 on the lure due to my inability to set the hook. The fish seem to like the lure but I was unable to move it enough to get a good hook set. Any suggestions on how to fish this lure more effectively?

I had the same problem...fish just don't find hooks on this lure. I've had 3 hits and no hooks in any of them.

Odd, I've had no problems with this lure. It's got less rubber to cause problems then most other rubber lures. Obviously you're working the thing right if you're getting bit. I'd say keep at it. Can you tell where the fish are hitting? Could they just have been nippers and not hard strikes?

Try this, seriously...give the fish a three second count when they eat the lure, tighten up, and nail 'em.

Judging by the teeth cuts and marks, they are biting on the front half of the lure. Seem to hit after the pause while giving it a jerk. Will try the 3 second count and see if that works.

Try split ringing a 6/0 or 7/0 treble hook to the front top of the bait.

Good tip by Justin. They often like to hit baits like this near the head. So if you're missing fish, adding a treble near the head can increase hook ups significantly.

Doesn't the Jimmy also have a hook attachment point in the mid section of the harness too? Its inside the tube body so you would have to cut/pull it through the tube. Just a thought.

Yep, here is a harness I just took out of one of mine. Looks like a solid attachment point to me for a split ring/treble hook.

Thanks for the picture! Looks like a perfect place to attach another hook; wonder if it will change the action of the bait a lot though . Make sure to check the fishing regulations in your area for the legal amount of hooks that can be used on one lure.

I put a hook on that spot and the bait still works fine. One of the muskies that had hit the lure was kind enough to put a gash in just the right spot for a belly treble. Now, it is time to put this lure to the test!

The problem with any soft plastic bait is the teeth sink in and don't slide. I have seen Muskies lock down on swimbaits and tubes making it difficult to get the hooks into the fish. Hard baits tend to move easier on a hookset.
