I've got a week on an island with the extended family, off Tampa Bay. This translates to atleast one day on a off- shore party boat. The snappers, groupers, sea bass, and
barracuda are already scattering in terror! A big cobia and tarpon would be great too!!
I hope to find a computer to report in.

Good luck, all the computers on the eastern seaboard are being monitored![;)] Go for the cobia...my guess a too big of a tarp is going to smoke that tackle...BUT...prove me wrong! Have fun + if you see Rhonde Barber(Bucs) down there, tell him you want to sign up for his football camp here next yr.....[:sun:]

Have fun Steve and family. Florida, a small island, the woman you love, sounds very romantic to me.... I do hope you and the little woman get a chance to spend time alone together. Do hope you get a chance to go fishing too, the one time I was out deep sea fishing, I ended up deep sea puking!!! It was not pretty, just ask your buddy, Worrall. Should be a wonderful vacation for all, just knowing what I know of you.

Bye,
JO------

I'm just back from the sunshine state, 94+ everyday and nearly calm. We only got onto a party boat one day and took most of the whole clan along. We were 10 miles out using cut squid for bait. The crew smirked at my hook sharpener as I sharpened all 12 hooks. However we caught 33 gray snappers. Out of 45 people, there were only 10 stringers! Many around us were really getting pissed that we were catching and they were just watching! There was enough to feed everyone in our families...barely.
My daughter caught a nice red grouper, but it wasn't long enough to keep. Every snapper was the same 12"-14". No chances at cobia or tarpon, oh well hopefully next time. It was nice because many in our group had never caught a fish before.
There were dead fish floating everywhere from the "Red Tide" which was moving into the area. The Red Tide is a poisonous plankton which sometimes can be a problem.
It wasn't muskies, but they sure taste good![]

Steve,

Sounds like a pretty good trip. I have heard of the red tides, folks say the smell is pretty bad, too.[]

Saltwater fascinates me for some reason. I am going to fish the gulf side next winter for sure.

I almost forgot one of the highlights, Sea turtles were laying their eggs on our section of beach at night. We saw one turtle which was 4' across laying her eggs. The nest is marked and dated on a warning sign the next day and checked multiple times each day. There are major penalties for disturbing the nests in any way. The eggs hatch about a month later. The last few days before the eggs hatch a wire cage in placed over the nest sight so the the baby turtles can be collected to protect them from the ever present birds, and released at a later date at that section of beach when they are a little bigger.[:)]

Steve, great to hear your trip was good. I have seen the red tides on tv and al I can say is I am glad they don't happen frequently. I have seen the sea turtles lay their eggs too, it's pretty cool indeed. Maybe next time you can get into the cobia and tarpon.[:)]
