the croix 8' 6" legend / premier xh are THE rods to have for everything! get two of these (custom from keith at proedge rods if you can) combined with your reel(s) of choice and you are done...mine are the luna 300 and the avet sx. then spend the other money you would have spent on other rods and reels that will end up collecting dust on something like a nice big hd tv that you wanted!

I've got my Big Dawg on hold at Thorne's. I'll pick it up Saturday on my way back to MI.

Yeah its nice. I am thinking about the jerk bait tourney. I got the sling, and the dawg already. I want to replace my compre jerk bait rod soon.

muskiewhored, with the tourney jerk at 7' 6" / rated 3-8 oz baits and the dawg at 8' 6" / rated at 4-10 oz baits do you really think there is much of a difference other than length? i realize some folks simply like a shorter rod for jerks. i use my dawg for jerks and it works well for me...

Yeah, actually I am only 5'8 ish and I personally think the shorter rod is better for me. It keeps my tip that much higher from the water. I used the sling, then my compre and felt I had better action on the shorter rod, so even another 6" may do me good, its the length nothing else. Personal pref for now.

What's everyone have as far as handles? I've got/getting the split grip on both. Ordered my Sling from Reed's as a straight grip and they sent the split grip, but I think I like it better now anyway. And all Thorne's had was the poodle tail, so fate has it that I'm getting the split grips.

I hold the fore grip on my rods and had thorne extend them to 18" on my 2 dawgs and 2 blades. So no split for me to hard on the ribs.

I have both the Sling Blade and the Big Dawg with normal grips. For what ever reason, I simply like the normal grips better on my rods.

5" foregrip with 18" rear on my legend dawg and 5" foregrip with 16" rear on the two i had made out of the legend bass mega swimbait blanks. all with 1 1/2 inch thick syncork. i prefer the thicker full handles and like the feel of the syncork vs. standard cork.

I got the split grips on both as well, I like them seems to keep my hands always where they should be so I dont get burnt out from casting all day. Plus the butt doesnt stink like a arm pit when Im done.

I got the split on both and my only problem is when ripping depth raiders the blank hurts the ribs. Full cork hurts the ribs too but not as bad. I remedy that by switching to Ms. Suzy or Mr. Dawg. I wasn't crazy about the short fore grip on the splits as I don't palm the reel but I've gotten used to it.

cool. im looking to get the sling blade, but i want it to be an all around rod for throwing blades, dawgs and etc. im wondering if "the jerk" is the same rod, just a foot shorter. Muskiewhored went over this, but if you could clarify if their actions and powers are different? Thanks.

And esoxfly, good to hear you found a good rod. do you like the sling blade or the mag dawg better as far as versatility?

I just got the LT Jerk rod and it is completely different from my Sling Blade. Much stiffer through the tip. I can't believe how well it works for jerkbaits, glide baits and WTD top waters compared to my old rod. Very easy to over work the bait until you get used to it. Very happy with both my Croix rods. It made me feel like my old Compre was broken when I went back after using th LTs.

I've only cast the Mag Dawg just today, but I think it'd be the better of the two for the "all around." It'll load with a DCG if you cast into hard enough, and it'll still toss a Pounder too.

I have both and I think that the dawg is the better all around rod. I can huck any thing from phantoms to mamouth sues with it the blade is a good crank bait and small bucktail rod mag dawgs and 2x10s load too mutch in the 8.
