I'll assume that your talking about the base colour of the lure, after which you will be adding other colours or accents. There are only two ways I'm familiar with; paint or foil. Foil is a little more work but will give you the real deal. Paint can work alright if you have a quality paint over an extremely smooth base then cleared with a coat of Etex or 2Ton. I suppose if you were into metal baits (eg. Canadian Wigglers) you get get into electroplating which would give you the truest metallic finish achieveable.

Personally I love real gold. I get all of my props and wings plated for my topwater baits. Really adds an extra sparkle.

we have started to get woodies chromed. try vacuum plating.

Cheap mans way too is to use silver or gold Rustoleum and then a few coats of epoxy. You can also do aluminum or gold foil with epoxy over it.
