Location: Forest Lake, MN & Bemidji, MN | Question for anyone who has ever methodically stalked and caught a trophy fish they first spotted while it was resting. My pb is 48" and today I finally found my 50+, problem is I found it while it was just resting and could care less about me or my lures. From everything I have read it sounds as if trophies have a home range and move about but tend to use the same areas and structure frequently. I found the fish sunning in the shallows when I was scouting a new spot I thought should hold a big fish. I was checking weed edges, transitions, breaklines, bottom composition etc. and came across the fish taking a nap. I am planning on fishing the pieces of structure I would assume the fish would be using for feeding during peak times, but I am wondering how far you guys think that a fish like this may travel? I know this is a pretty wide open question but I am hoping someone who may have experience with catching a fish they first found while it was resting is out there. Thanks! |

Location: Metro, MN | Was cruising around metro a few weeks ago 2 feet of water 10:00 am with hot and sunny weather and drove by a 50.5x24 on the side of the boat. hit neutral and threw a viper right on top of her and she inhaled it. Probably the coolest thing ive ever seen and most fun fish ive ever boated |

| Just to give you an idea of how far they may travel from a location previously seen or caught at, we have a 52" tagged in our study that moved almost 1.5 miles 24-hrs after being caught. It is still in the same area last time we tracked her. We have two more 50s that are staying in and around the same structure they were caught from, but spend a fair bit of time in water most casters would not fish (trollers might have a shot at them).
I think it depends on the structure. If you've seen a fish from a large, complex structure it is likely to stay around. If you saw a fish from a small weedbed on an otherwise featureless shoreline (52" from above) then chances are they have moved away. We are seeing this "pattern" in other, smaller fish as well. |

| I caught a nice Tiger on the South shore of my local lake. The next day, my friend caught the same fish on the North shore, about 1/4 mile away. |

We have fish in large and medium sized river systems.

Musky Karma, sounds like one hell of a fun catch. esox50, It is a very large and diverse piece of structure on a main lake channel so I think there is a decent chance she will be hanging around. I think it is as good as it gets for spots and that's why I was poking around in the first place. We'll see. Sounds like you have a pretty cool study going. |
