Lost my "would be" personal best, Thursday August 6th to a poorly constructed Shallow Mag Dawg, I chalk it up to the wimpy split rings. Even more so I feel terrible knowing there is a potential 50" out there swimming around with a hook in its face. I have since read that I should have upgraded split rings immediately before using it. I have only owned two Bulldawgs, both have produced but I had little confidence in using them until now. Better late than never I guess. I have a new confidence bait.

Fish hit about 50' from the boat immediately came to the surface and gave a head shake, fish then must have made a "u" shape dive under the water and proceeded to come completely out of the water vertical like Shamu. The whole battle lasted 5 or so seconds. I felt sick, still do. I did get an amazing look at her and I could see the Dawg very visible near the end of her mouth/nose when she went vertical. It looked so small on the the rim of that gaping mouth! What could have been. Just hoping that hook will not interfere with her well being, or someone else will catch her and get it removed.

Soooo... now I am hooked on plastics fishing. Thursday at a little after noon I placed an order with MTO after all the good things I have read about them on this site for five Mega D's. I had them at my door at 1:30 the next day. Not only the quick turn around but I also received a few very personalized emails from Aaron about the survey questions at checkout and some concern about his electronic receipt system possibly not functioning correctly. All I can say is top notch!

My first impression of the Super D's is very promising, right away I noticed the much firmer plastic, coil through construction and most importantly the "beefy" split rings. Time to put them to the test.

Just wanted to share my experiences, please upgrade your split rings if your new to the dawgs like I was and remember Muskie Tackle Online when you think of your next purchase.

We tear up a few dawgs like that a year, a bottle of Spike it or Mend it will fix it good as new. Upgrade the splitrings and I like adding longer shanked hooks also. I notice a few of this years dawgs already have the longer shanked hooks, now if they would just put a little bigger eye on them so a guy don't need splitrings to get the leader hooked on we'll be happy.

I second putting on a bigger eye, so I don't have to put a split ring on, I thought I was the only one irritated by that.

Yes but... That dawg in the above photo is a couple years old. It may be new to the user though as it may have been old stock at a retailer.
lots of luck

Correct Will, I had it a few years, never had the appropriate tackle to launch mag dawgs for an extended period of time nor the confidence. It was probably purchased at Gander where it may have sat for awhile also.
