Can anyone tell me where to find out if a 1974 50 hp johnson can be converted to a tiller?

You'd have to engineer some thing. The earlier Johnsons came as either a control model (most of them) or a tiller model (very few made). The connection was built right into the lower housing. For what the motor is worth your better off getting another tiller model motor. You'd have at least what the motor is worth into switching it over. Tiller kits aren't cheap even if you could find them for your motor. You'd need the kit plus the lower casing. It would envolve removing the power head, shaft, exhaust and installing them in the tiller model lower casing.

Good Luck
Tim
