Get in touch with Frank from Frank's Custom rods. He's on here and I'm sure he'll see this. Frank is the man and can help you out with any rod needs or issues.

Yes the rod can be extended out to 8'6" and even 9. I dont personally like to extend more than 9 or 10 inches. The rod will not perform any different than it currently does so extending it will not be an advantage unless u are wanting a longer rear grip. hope this helps.

Here is a cheap fix, a slip on balance kit rod butt cap, you can get them at a PRO BASS

I extended the butt section of my 6'9" St. Croix by about 4-5 inches as a fix for the rod digging into my ribs. Very easy to do if you have a little patience. The hardest part was finding a piece of blank the correct size for the large diameter of the St. Croix blank. Ended up finding an old catfish rod at a garage sale for 5 bucks. Cut it down, epoxy, install/epoxy cork and butt cap, sand to form cork rings...done. I made a clamp out of 2 pieces of 2x4, and threaded rod (did a search on the internet and found the idea) for even pressure during the gluing stage. After doing it once, I would have a hard time paying someone to do it. I suppose I had maybe $12.00 in the entire project.

pikemaster i already have that same thing on my gloomis i guess i could put this on the M.I. rod.. if i dont have it extended 6 inches.. but i think a 8ftr would throw mu pounders well so i may just leave it alone...bill
