Tracker Deep V 17: 1991 Johnson 40h.p.- gal. trailer-spare-travel cover-2 fishfinders-trolling motor--3,000.00 flat.....if I get it, the wife buys; if not I have to help on the one I get! Motor is my only concern.... was that a good year? Instead of tilt/trim it has the gas cylinder thing to raise + lower. Thanks to all who want to see me get hoo-dooed!!!LOL:)[:sun:]

Jeff, thanks! I just called the guy.... has a Hummingbird on the front + an Eagle Ultra on the rear. He just bought a bass boat + his wife wants new hardwood floors + the thing is garage kept....gotta at least check it out! Hows the boy doing serving Uncle Sammy? Pin silver wings upon his chest...LOL- that hurts but worth it knowing there aren't many who make it! Miss it sometimes myself but what the hay. Next time they should recruit musky people + get it over w/ fast![:sun:]

RIK

Never owned a 91 but it sounds resonable. Can you take it for a test drive?

That would be my deciding factor over year, brand, etc. Most fisherman(women) will not run their motors long enough to ever wear one out. The determining factor will be more a question of, "did they take care of it?"

Let it warm up, see how it idles cold/warm. Check for backfire/caughing. Look for oil leaking around the prop shaft, etc. Don't know anything about those gas shock/tilt things but CMC aftermarket tilt runs about $500 and they are worth the price.

I say run it if it runs, have Spongebabe write the check and save your cash for more baits and Lil'Sponges college fund []

Good Luck,

Bob,

You might want to check the Max HP rating on this boat first. Not implying that there is a problem with the Johnson, but any 40 may be a tad on the small side with this boat. This boat has a console, correct?

Good point, Mark. Try to get a test drive, and take some gear with. That should help determine if the motor is big enough. Check for leaks, check the plugs, crack open the lower unit plug, and just generally check for signs of good upkeep.

I''ve got Tuffy Walleye Rampage(15 1/2'') with a 25. Fine with just me and the wife, but add a big man, say 250+, and it''s pretty sluggish. It is definately underpowered. Wish I had a 40 on it then.

Otherwise, sounds like a fair deal. I really like the idea of somebody else buying me a boat. Any volunteers out there? Are you listening? Tuffy Esox DV1760, Merc 135 Opti and 9.9 kicker, Tuff Trail. I got the finders, sea anchors, and such. Call for color preferences.

Good luck, which ever way you go.

Regards,

Shep

I see Steve is listening! That's a good start, don't you think? But does he hear me? Does he really hear me?

Hey Admiral Sponge, it looks like you are back in the navy!
Like Steve Worrall says, check out the blue book on it, look at it first hand and if possible run it for say 6 months or a couple of laps around the lake, which ever the current owner will allow! The way you say you tend to trade boats in, this could be a hold over until you get out here to make the epic movie, then you can pick up your Tuffy!

What happened to getting purple haze’s sister ship? When does filming begin?
I’m going to advise on the lake tryout as well. Make sure you can take sponge jr. and yourself tubing.

Thanks to all....I will give her a splash before buying IF I buy! The nadaguides is par w/ price....a must for future purchases! The motor is a tiller which is OK but the H.P. may be a factor as I sometimes wander miles across the lake + forget where the ramp is! I have a 9.9 merc. on a small boat I can use as I enjoy trolling. I now feel comepletely helpless as I''ve come to depend on you guys so much I can no longer function as I should[;)]....expect more pleas for help!!! [:sun:]
*Shep- I wish I could fill you in on "How To Drain The Wife" but I may get caught if she reads any of this....I actually think she feels sorry for me though as I catch her looking at me sometimes + all she can do is shake her head. Funny how the dumb, dumber + DUMBEST get the smart, smarter + SMARTEST women! Perhaps I can share some tackle snatching tips for you as time goes on....[] [:sun:]
