I am headed to vermilion this weekend and the weather looks like it will be cold. With the cold weather and cooler water temps do you think night fishing will be any good or would I be wasting my time? What are some good colors for night?

My most successful times for fishing the big V have been at night, predominately around the moon-rise. Black and red Double Cowgirl is the real cat's meow.......

Just got back, coming from a very good guide: black, black, and then maybe try out some black.

Was out with Dave Swenson and he switched to 'cotton candy' right at dark and thereafter. Did okay with that color at night.

I think the explosion of night fishing success two and three seasons back was really a water temp issue. 72 REALLY seems to be the magic number on that lake and during those summers 72 happened at night. Last year was colder and end of July was just bringing 72 during the daytime hours right when we had to leave and we noticed a marked increase in fish activity during the day right on cue.

I'll be out there Sat-Sat starting this coming weekend.

My thinking is with a limited amount of time out there, you basically fish both day and night, scheduling your fishing around MR/MS/SR/SS/MOH/MUF and breaking/sleeping as needed in-between. You can pick your week, but not your weather. Fish it all.

Just back from a week on Vermilion and the magic time continues to be right before first dark until about 10:30'ish. Heard reports from guys who had fished all through the night and there were periods in the middle of the night when fish would go, but not like the twilight into first dark.

Gold/gold and blue/nickel worked best for us....both Double Cowgirls and Supermodels.

Seems to be a window open for about a 1/2 hour once per week with the cold water temps. Walleyes are biting though....

Getting bites at night even with cold water temps--find'em in day catch 'em at night--chix in oven for 2:30 supper then back on water 3:30 for the 4:30 major.

just talked to a buddy today --he was holed up in the cabin "watching whitecaps" as per his report. Rain, 30mph wind gust, 59 degrees . I told him that sounded like my entire week 2 weeks ago. They did fish 1/2 day sat , all day sun and mon, nothing to report except a 24 incher . He said the guides he had spoken too were not moving fish. MD
