I have a bit of a 'working vacation' the next few days at Spring Bay Resort on Vermilion. Joe and Steve have already been up to the cabin ( brand new, and really cool) to welcome us and make us feel at home. Sounds like the Muskies are moving a little better now, and Sue is looking for the walleyes, bass, and pannies to bother some as well. I guess Sue and I'll take up where Beav and Taylor left off...

Leave some of the fish for us! Doug Kloet and I are heading up in the middle of August. Hopefully the fish wont have sore mouths from being hooked by you!

We got out for awhile this evening and looked over the local stuff from camp to Wakem Up Bay. Weeds are stellar, but the fish were either not there or not going. Saw a 36"ish on a Wabull. After some work tomorrow, we'll look over the areas Beav was fishing and see if he left us any.

We didn't get out until after 6 PM tonight, and headed back to finish learning the Wakemup Bay area weeds and reefs. Saw one, about a 47, on a Weagle, and spoke to another angler who had action this morning to the North on Weagles...guess that's where we are headed tomorrow, where Beav was spending most of his time and East, I think, he didn't leave me a map.

Should be a good day tomorrow with the front to the south. I should be able to get in a few hours in the afternoon!

OOOOOPS, sorry.
Give me a call anytime and I'll let you know where I was seeing fish.......even my bluegill spots It was nothing to catch lunch or supper in 15 minutes, and then stay out for a few hours catching and releasing one 9"er after another. No better way to spend Fathers Day with my daughter, and the week after that.

My guess is that picture of the eagle was taken on an island in head o the lakes bay since you are atying at Spring Bay. If that's true you should fish around that island. There is a 53 living there. She likes to follow jackpot's but probably wont eat. But thsoe big green lizards are cool to see atleast

Steve, look for a blond guy with a Crestliner and a black 115 Johnson motor. His name is Jeremy and you'll for sure run into him some evenings if you are working anywhere near that area of the lake. If you can get him talking and I'm sure you can, he could provide some awesome info for you.

Cool. Went out with Steve from Spring Bay Resort tonight for a couple hours for some footage as part of a clip I'm putting together for them. Steve moved a good one, and another cruised right by close to the rig. Steve is very knowledgeable and works the water as well as anyone I've fished with. I like this water...

This afternoon Sue and I went after gills, and got enough for a fish fry. Had a blast fishing pannies, saw a couple muskies, and had one blast a Violent Strike and head shake loose. Sorry guest, no pike for Sue, and no lost fish on the Weagle for me.

The weather was not the best today, winds were very strong and a few storms rolled through. We got out at 3:30, and caught dinner; had a blast with the bluegills and pike in a tiny bay.

Then we explored a bit, and learned some more water for when I'm back up for the Outing.

We did fish Muskies for a couple hours, moving 5, one was a Vermilion Special. This lake can grow 'em, that's for sure. Only one taker, a low 40s on a Slow tease that stopped the bait dead, but somehow didn't get hooks. Came in the the boat looking, but didn't re-commit. I saw a couple on that lure tonight. Water temps were only 61 in one bay, 63 in the other...cooled off quite a bit indicating surface temps are JUST surface right now. I'd bet a week of 80 degrees temps will get the fish going.

Nice bluegills in this pond.

Hey, great pic of my BassCat Steve. Enoyed chatting with you at the dock. Slow fishing for us this week. Finally had some follows yesterday by really nice Muskie. Spring Bay has really exceeded expectations. We WILL come back, next time in August though. What a beautiful place to fish.

Justin,
It was good talking to you as well, and seeing you on the water. That Cat is a sweet ride...

The 4 day 'working' stay at Spring Bay was GREAT. What a resort; service, price, and digs like I've never experienced at a Muskie destination. We stayed in a new cabin Joe and Steve just placed up on the hill in the woods above Vermilion. Satellite TV and radio, stereo speakers throughout the cabin, full kitchen and bath, super comfortable queen bed in a big bedroom, sofa sleeper and comfortable chairs in the living room, a huge deck for enjoying sunrises or sunsets, internet access, hardwood flooring in the living room, dishes and utensils and coffee maker and grill...perfect. And, for a week that little comfortable cabin is $750, a heck of a deal these days.

Spring Bay even has an outdoor phone with free unlimited long distance. I used that quite a bit while working up there. The docks are well kept and protected, there's gasoline available, the launch ramp is in great shape, and when you come in from fishing, there's someone there to catch your boat most times. The fish cleaning house is nice, walleye, bass, panfish and pike fishing provides opportunities for a fish fry. There's even sharp fillet knives hanging above the sink. There's a sand beach, lounge chairs, and all sorts of water bikes and paddle boats to rent.

Joe showed us a couple of the big 'cabins' Saturday morning. WOW. More like a luxury apartment, some can sleep 14. Spring Bay also bought a couple places adjacent to the main facility. One was really quite impressive, it's a monster house on the lake, dock, fully landscaped, and...a separate Sauna and hot tub building, all meticulously cared for. This place can sleep a horde of muskie anglers, and if you bring your spouses, I can guarantee they won't get bored with the digs; it's literally a million dollar place. And amazingly, it's affordable if you bring a crew up there, great place for a large family fishing get together.

If you are into 'roughing it' and no amenities, this isn't your resort. We had a blast, thanks Joe and Steve!

I didn't get on the water much, but got around enough to get a feel for the West end. Saw Muskies and big muskies, but they were not going for us well, though I did have a couple blast a lure and plain missed them. Got Pike to 35", smallmouth, big gills, and enjoyed a few fish dinners. When we decided to, we walked the short distance to The Landing and had an ice cream cone or a root beer float. No need to walk up the hill to the cabin if you don't want to, they have plenty of golf carts, 4 wheelers, and other machines to get you around the place. They had a cookout Thursday for the families there, which will be a standard feature next year according to Joe.The lake was beautiful, and I am looking forward to returning for the Outing.

Joe just bought a new pontoon. 300 horsepower!

The MuskieFIRST Outing is going to be quite a week. If you are not signed up and if there's a opening I'd get on it.
