I know a lot of the guys who post regularly on this forum also sell a lot of their baits on eBay, so I thought this would be a good place to reach you guys. I love to search eBay for random muskie baits. It's cool to look for that diamond in the rough bait, or some super deal from someone trying to clean out their tackle box. And sometimes I like to sell one of my own on there. And I really think it's cool that there are a lot of guys making a living by selling baits on there. But as someone who loves to search eBay for baits, I get frustrated with the gazillion Auctions for the exact same item. I've even seen a time or two when an entire page of search results is taken up by multiples of the same item. Now let me kinda explain where I'm coming from. For me, it takes a while to search through, and often I miss something all together. It just gets frustrating is all. And if I sell something, most of the eBay window shoppers aren't seeing my baits on there...they are either lost amid the multiples as the person is scrolling through, or they are on a later page that the person never gets to because they think they have seen everything there is to see already. (this might be important to a lot of the bait makers that just make a few here and there to sell) I'm not saying this in a negative way at all. I totally understand eBay is an awesome way to sell baits. And most likely I've bought baits from you too. I understand the ideas of capitalism that everyone likes to talk about. But what I’m thinking might actually help out the Sellers too… What I mean is, there has to be a better way to actually LIST the baits on there? Would it be possible to do a "Buy It Now" option? With that you can have any quantity of the same item in one single auction? Or would it be possible to list fewer and have a link to your actual website? Or maybe just have a rotation of items rather than putting them all on at once? This would keep things fresh and keep people looking. Just some thoughts…

Posts: 1348 Location: Pewaukee, WI | Murphy, you might try using this in the search box: "musky, muskie." That will cut down your search significantly. Hope that helps. ![]()

Location: Oswego, IL | Stops people from looking? sounds like you went thru all of them. I assume everyone else will. I do see the point, why so many, well they pay for it to be done that way, so let it ride. If your looking for muskie baits just come to this site, you will find what you need, either here if they sell, OR get referrals to good online store like MTO. Relax and stay off Ebay! ![]()

Posts: 402 Location: Eagle River, WI | I agree, and I haven't been looking on e-bay because of this. There is to much repetition. I find it very hard to find what I am looking for when I have to search through 25-30 pages of the same identical stuff. Don't get me wrong I have bought a lot of baits from some of these guys that list heavily on there, but I think that they could try to consolidate it just a little. Just my opinion.

Love eBay. Picked up a lot of new and good used musky stuff there.

Posts: 20248 Location: oswego, il | Ebay is a great place to find good deals, especially when you know what it is and not many others do. Everyone has a right to sell which is fine but it would be nice in the advance search options to omitt a seller or sellers to narrow down the search but it is what it is. Definitely put musky and muskie in your title. There are way more baits with musky than muskie. When I search muskie, I do an advanced search and omitt musky. You will get a bunch of presidential stuff along with the stuff not listed under musky.

Posts: 137 | I agree with you Murphy. For a lot of basement bait makers, ebay used to be one of the best ways to market and sell lures. Especially for those of us that used it simply as an outlet for a hobby that we are passionate about, but had no desires to go into the lure making "business" as a profession. Nowadays, it seems, ebay is geared towards power sellers and online stores, and the individual unique items are getting harder to sell and harder to find. I used to love to scroll through the lures on ebay looking for that one lure that would add that certain something extra to my fishing arsenal, but now, I find that it is painfully tiresome to spend time searching through all the pages for a small handful of unique lures, so I don't spend much time on there anymore at all. I also used to sell baits that I don't use very often on ebay and occasionally some of my homemade lures as well, and I always got fair prices for them. Now you might as well just have people pay shipping and send them out for free. It's not a search thing either, just too much of the same thing over and over, which is one reason why I don't bother looking for baits on ebay anymore. You can search musky, muskie baits or whatever, doesn't matter, the repetetive postings still come up. This is unfortunate, because ebay is one of the only ways, (outside of lure swaps) that you can get baits that you don't use to other muskie addicts, and for bait makers, it is the loss of one of the few market places to sell individual homemade lures that are unique and special in every aspect. I still use ebay quite a bit, just not for lures anymore. I don't begrudge the lure makers who are taking advantage of ebay to mass market goods. A lot of those lures are really good lures. I do have problems with ebay, however, as they seem to be turning away from being the online auction site that they started out as, and now appear to have become a web based strip mall.

Posts: 130 Location: Chicago | Try this, when searching for muskie lures on ebay if you initiate an advanced search there are areas where you can place vendors to avoid. I got this info from a couple of guys on here and it works pretty well in avoiding alot of the mass and repetitive vendors each time I see something that looks like junk or have seen a hundred times I add the vendor to the list. Hope this helps. Dave musk*, -sam10270,hidgate,kickxtc,dealsgalor,summerlove510,basswise2000,thebookpile,fishersmleo,gloomisus,tacklebooty,drggz,guidedogtackle
