Whats up musky dudes, I just bought a Okuma IDx 400a reel and I'm a little unsure about what type of line/pound test to put on it. The reel is going on a 7-foot 3-8 ounce St. Croix Triumph...any suggestions ???

Masterbraid-80#

All of the above are premium lines. You'll be good to go with any of them, its just personal preference and confidence.

Ive been using a fairly new (not sure how long its been out) superbraid since last fall and really like it. its called Grand slam braid and it is made by Hi-Seas. ive used both the 80 and 100# test and have been very pleased with it. If your not familiar with the brand name Hi Seas, they are associated with AFW.

I recently switched from PowerPro to Masterbraid. Although PowerPro never let me down (except staining my hands and clothes green when it was new) I feel Masterbraid is a superior line. Just my $0.02.......

Most everything is good, but I've been really happy with Cortland Masterbraid. Spiderwire Stealth also seems good. Like the others said, go 80 pound.

80# BERKLEY TRACER BRAID, this line has 8 strands, very smooth - no guide noise, water proof - no wet hands, color holds so so, but your hands will not turn green, and you can see your line.

This may seem like a stupid question but why #80 braid? Is it to help minimize backlashes or make them easier to pick out if, or should I say when you get one?

YES to all of the above and your line won't break on a back lash with a 2-8oz bait, and U don't want to have a break off with a 50" plus fish of a lifetime. Baits over 6-8oz I use 100lb # test to be on the safe side. If you are throwing only light baits under 2-3oz 65# test will be ok. Bass guys are using 20-30lb mono in heavy slop for a fish that is under 10lbs.
