Will straight crankbait work well too? Do you fish them the same as daytime* jerk, reel pull, etc? I had luck on spinnerbait n dbl10 but want to diff thing.

I like to troll those little Muskie Bucks with a #5 Meps blade. They run perfect around 2.5 MPH, 15-20' back. There's just something about that bell sound that drives them nuts. I've caught plenty on everything else at night but nothing comes close to the little bucks during the Summer months.

If you're trolling on Crow, 13" believers and 14" jakes, or even bigger cranks, are the ticket.

Tandem 10's, 13's and 16's, 13"/10" jntd Believer, Wave Walker, Super Topraider, 13"/9" Grandma, 14"/10" Jake, Thunderhead, big globe, mag Hawg Wobbler. I could fish all summer at night with a big bootail with tandem 13's and an all-black 10" jntd Believer. You guys also have me thinking about rollin' Pounders and 2Pounders too.

is all black effective at night like it is for bass? i know bright colors you think would be more visible are not in the case of bass fishing but would bright colors be more visible or less visible to the eyes of a musky in lets say both clear and stained water? i dont have much experience with the night time vision of musky.

I actually use white, grey or silver most the time at night..it's just easier for me to see when it gets near the boat. I have not noticed colour being much of a factor at any time where I fish, day or night. In the dark especially, they're eating the vibration and 'footprint' they bait leaves on their lateral line. Jailbird works, caught fish on firetiger at night. I think if the bait's got the right action you're in business. My all-black Believer just happens to be my loudest and clunkiest I use a Finlander (basically WHITE) a lot thats almost as loud, works almost as well and has caught as many fish. If you ever want to catch a really big small or largemouth bass, roll a big surface bait or blade in the dark, I've seen some real freaks caught this way. Go out and work hard with a spinning rod for a three pounder by day with jigs, then go out with 100# braid and a ten inch muskie lure and get a six pounder by accident in the dark haha.

Really, anything that works during the day will work at night. Use a confidence bait so that you keep a lure wet since you don’t see follows which gain you confidence in a lure. That said Big Joes are my #1 night bait on cisco based lakes. Other than that Ernies and 10” Jakes are next up. As far as color it doesn’t have to be black. In fact I am like JBush in colors. My night colors are the same as my day colors. If you have a lake that Perch is good during the day use it at night and it will be good.

Thats awesome that they eat those rubber baits just as good at night, Travis. A big, greasy, wobbly mag Suzy Sucker just arrived in the mail. I can't wait to try rubber at night this season. I'm tempted to take a knife and fork to this thing with some ranch dip myself, it just looks tasty! Anything differently with these kinds of baits in the dark? Just slower and steady like with other styles of lures?

With the Big Joe's just slow and steady with maybe a drop here and there. Works great for the fish, but not for me! Nothing worse than being on your thrid or fourth hour of throwing a Joe in the dark, and it's 3 am. Talk about the church nods standing up!

IMO Cowgirls, topraiders and mini super humpers. Basically anything that moves a lot of water or makes a of of noise.
