Location: Chicago,IL | Heading up to Vermilion on the 20th and staying at a private cabin on the west end of the lake, Head-o-Lakes Bay/Spring Bay area. Looking for some info on the area we are staying at. We have never been on Vermilion, will we be in a good are or have to travel some for action. Just wondering what is good at this time of the year, rocks ,weeds, ect. Just looking for some info to get us started don't want anyone to give away their secret spots. Any info will be appreciated!!!!

| i'd call Steve Amundson over at Spring Bay Resort and chat with him about the early season bite on the West Arm.
great guy and his guiding rates are quite reasonable as well.

| Plenty of great spots to be found working your way around Pine Pine island. Starting clockwise around the island is a good way to start out but be prepared for the wind in the big bay south. The rocky narrows on the way to the west end are good too! |

Location: Twin Cities | Shallow bays right now. There isn't much weed growth yet but should be by then. Steve will tell you some good places to look too. Suicks, small bucktails, small cranks, gliders.... I mights be up there that weekend, should be a good bite. Water temps are only around 55 right now and the fish spawned pretty recently still. |

| Can't advise much for specifics on the Western part of the lake, but sounds like rbiwer is right on in general.
A buddy just returned from Vermilion and said they saw some fish in very shallow water, but one in particular looked pretty beat up, like it had just gotten off the beds. Although they threw a few casts at fish they could see, not even a look from any yet. Walleyes on the other hand were a lot more cooperative.
Should just get better from here though for ski's. |
