How many of you guys use a lathe for lures other than plugs?
I've been messing around with different ideas, off center spinning, Cut out cranks and turn. For my tool arsonal it seems to be the best way to get uniform blanks. I was just wondering if anyone might have any cool ideas for turning lures. I'm finding every little piece of scrap wood i can find lying around to try something new. It sure is fun.
Just curious,
Jim

I've made a few mock depth raiders this way before. Start with a piece of wood 2 1/2 inches wide and maybe 7/8 thick and work at it till u get the right width and thickness you like. It will take a bit of time to find out what you want but its cool when you find it. Yeah I've been doing this for 5 years now.

Jim, look into split turnings in furnituremaking lathe books. Almost endless amounts of techniques and methods applicable for baits. Hope you find enough wood. Duff

Split turnings are good if you don't plan on getting them wet. The glue will at some point get wet and separate. Unless you epoxy the wood together instead of glue. With fishing lures or somthing you want to leave outside for any period of time is solid wood is the only way to go.
