how do you hook up a 24v trolling motor,I know you need a jumper from one battery to the other but don`t want to get the wires crissed crossed and blow it up.After the jumper is in place, you still have a positive and negitive wires left,do they go to the pos and neg or opposite,THANKS FOR ANY REPLYS

When you hook the negative of one battery to the positive of another battery with a jumper wire you will get 24 volts if you hook your motor up to the remaining terminals. If you take two batteries and hook positive to positive and negative to negative you still have 12 volts. So, for bonus points, how many volts would you get if you hook three batteries up as follows: battery 1 pos. to battery 2 negative and battery 3 negative to battery 2 positive?

None if you don't complete the circuit by hooking up the battery 1 negative and battery 3 positive to something...

If you do that, you'd get 36.

Ah yes, but how many amps?

There's not much talk on amps, but wiring in series your amps stay the same. Wiring in parallel, your amps from each battery add up.

Although most boats should have 10 gauge wire, it would be wise to check it out before connecting the 24 volt trolling motor.
Be sure there is a Circuit breaker protection for Trolling Motor. The proper size breaker switch may save you some money in the future.
Otherwise, hook up the red (positive) wire to positive terminal and negative to negative.
Just check wiring and breaker switch first.

The simplest description is to hook up your trolling motor connections first - the positive to battery 1 and the negative to battery 2. Connect the remaining open terminals (negative 1 to positive 2) with the jumper and you have 24 volts.
