When I put the boat on the trailer and its crooked I try to put the motor in reverse and go back, but everytime it cannot do it and when I get the throttle all the way up the motor will go out of the water tilting til I push it down or back off the throttle. How do I get it off the trailor (other than pushing it)

Zach, sounds like your tilt/lock switch is either in the tilt position or broke.I used to keep mine in the tilt position when running in forward,(in case I hit a log or stump etc.) but had the same problems in reverse.Hope your problem is solved,Paul

Zach, check your tilt latch on the motor + make sure it locks in all the positions + stays locked; like Paul said it could be worn or something...someone on here is bound to know some way to fix it! Easy to check out of the water....[:sun:]
***Do you have guide ons for the rear of the trailer?
Just re-read your post...the tilt latch is located near the top of the motor near the clamp + should be on the right side...it will go up or down...w/ the tilt up grab the lower unit + try to pull the motor up...it should stay put in the lock position....then pull the tilt tab down + repeat...the motor should raise...let me know.

LOL Anon! My "once a year" semi intelligent contribution to the musky community...although I must admit me favorite laugh of the day was " get it on straight next time"! Hee hee heeeeee.....unfortunately it was pulled[:blackeye:]

I'm pretty sure the tilt lever is ok. It tilts up and down and stays down unless the very top notch in reverse, one notch lower it is fine. I know the same happens to esox14's 20 hp evinrude tiller. Maybe I should get guides? Sometimes it goes on straight I think who needs guides...but when it takes three times to get on straight while others are waithing at the launch I think I may need them.

Dude, get the guide ons...much easier to get on straight in my opinion! I have mine fairly close but my skiff is older so I don't mind a little rub.....[:sun:]

Sounds like you may be backing the trailer in too deep, Try backing in just until the tops of your tires are level with the water, from there experiment a bit by going shallower and then deeper to find out which is easier to load the trailer, just don't tie up the ramp if others are around

I run a 50 hp on a 16 1/2 footer, and with guide ons, it does not always go on straight. Even my motor is not enough to pull the rig back, if I have pushed the front end up onto the keel rollers. Reason being is the rear force of the motor is not enough for the weight of the boat. I have had to put one leg over and push back sometimes...but I only do it if there is nobody else at the ramp. If others are there waiting, I will stop, hook up the boat to the winch strap, and push her back, then crank it up manually. actaully saves time, and lets the other people know you are not going to waste your time trying to power on, only to possibly not get on straight again.
