Has anyone made this switch on their reels? Did you notice a difference in performance or is it simply that the ceramic is more durable?

Definitely made my Abu 7000 feel smoother, glad I did it. Cheap too.

Mackerel, did you replace an 'old' pawl with this new ceramic one? I would think the main function of the ceramic coating/layer is for better wear resistance but it may make it smoother. I have no experience with these but when I go to replace my Abu pawls I'm going to give them a shot. Can't hurt.

I replaced mine and haven't had any issues. They work great....

Check out Mikes Reel Repair for those.....And you can swap out the drag discs for carbon fiber. That helps as well....

The ceramic pawl is a good, inexpensive upgrade. You may consider changing the worm gear as well, depending the age. I have seen good life out of them.

Install dual bearings in the worm gear and a ceramic pawl now you are smooth.
