I am looking to get a couple 10 or 11 foot rods for my trolling set. Anyone have a good suggestion for these rods. I would like to keep the cost $70ea. or under if it doesn't compromise quality to bad. I was looking into the surf rods but not sure what specs. I should look for in a rod like this. What action, line wt., lure wt.?

Help.

Check out some Lake Michigan trolling rods. I remember using 10' Dipsey Diver rods. I think that you are on the right track looking at saltwater rods if you can't find anything in the Great Lakes dept.

Shimano makes a rod called a TDR I believe they're around $50 and they can handle most small to med muskie baits- only thing is its a 2piece, but I have not had any issues in the 3-4 years of using mine.

Gander Mt. trolling rods are pretty nice, I think I paid around 70 a piece.

I got some rods at Gander last fall that are a "dipsy diver" models, 10 foot, 2 piece. I did a lot of trolling last fall and the worked great. 14 inch jakes were a little on the heavy side, but they worked. Only $40/ea too, when my garage door isn't frozen shut, i'll check what brand they are.

I've got a couple 10' Shimano Talora Dipsey rods that could be nice for trolling musky baits. Big upgrade from the TDR but also a bit more money. They are a pain to haul around though due to the 10' length. My rod locker is only good to 8'6" so I have to break down the Taloras to haul them around. I find that I only use the Taloras for dipseys in rough water and in line planers where the length is a real advantage. I use 7'6" saltwater boat rods for most of my musky trolling. Best part is they are real cheap (under $40 for decent used ones) and virtually indestructible.

I know someone who swears by the Berkely Glowstik 10' rod which lights up for night trolling and can pull pretty much any bait.

I've been using the Okuma 10' mooching rods for my longer rods the past few seasons, and they've done a great job for both dipsy rods as well as dragging baits up to 10" Jakes (haven't really run anything longer on them yet). Great price on them and does what I need it to do. I believe they are in the $30-$40 range too.

Thanks for all the advice. Is there a certain action I should look for on these rods, XH, H, MH? I am worried I'm going to buy one that is to soft.
