I've started dipping my lures in acrylic primer and I find it works really well in terms of coverage, but I just can't seem to get rid of the bubbles. Am I stirring too fast and too much? Other than sealing with E-tex or Nu-lustre prior to priming, is there any other way to prevent the bubbles from forming? Is there an easy way to remove them?

Probably air bubbles escaping from the wood. You need to seal the wood first, then prime.

Yep, what knooter said.........seal first with polycrylic or sanding sealer, let dry, then dip in primer. You might even use two coats of sealer first.

Thanks guys, I'm going to give polycrylic a try. But how about the bubbles on the primer as it's running off the lure? I was thinking a heat gun or hair dryer would dissipate them?

sorry for the one-handed typing........i use barrier-coat by sherwin williams. it's a primer/sealer in one. on some woods i would get bubbles, so i would simply sand down any bad areas and dip again. started doing 3 dips because it's like painting on an egg shell. asked the rep about the bubbles, and he said it was just doing its job by penetrating the wood.

Hey Beav,
What's the going price for the barrier coat now. years back it was $75 a bucket, last time I bought it the price was better than twice that.
Take care of the hands Beav.

For those of you guys using Createx what are you using for a primer that you dip in? Right now I am sealing the wood, coating with clear, and painting on that but I am curious about the dip.
