I know there were a couple posts on the episode of Hunt for Big Fish where Larry was out with Hammernick and Hoppe, but nobody made mention of that genius bait Larry MADE on site for accessing the extremely deep weeds they were marking in 15+ FOW

He poured 3oz of lead and ran three .051 wires out of the mold, then poured the lead around the wires sticking out. Then he attached a large blade to each of two wires sticking out via a swivel and put dressing and hooks on the shaft.

His idea was to run the 3oz bait DEEP to access the fish. He had one come up and follow his bait around a few turns them drift away from the boat....what happened next is pure genius...BY DESIGN that heavy three oz bait (a massive chunk of lead), upon freespool, traveled straight down toward the lake's bottom, fluttering its blades all the way down....his idea was this would give him an additional 20 feet (to lake bottom) of bait action to trigger the fish that had just drifted off and guess what happened? Yup, she ate it.

I'm not easily impressed, but I have to say...to see some weeds on a graph, wish to be able to access them, then build a lure to do so while at the same time creating a bait that can trigger as it drops is brilliant.

Pure brilliance! I had the exact same thoughts as you.
