| I got a 6501C3 this year, and it's a great reel except for a couple of minor (or maybe not so minor) quibbles-
The gear ratio is too slow to keep up with glide baits. I'll have to look into getting that upgraded.
The freespool keeps disengaging on me. It doesn't do it often enough to expect it, but it's a real eye-opener when I'm lobbing a 10" Jake and it snubs up fifteen feet out.
I put a 7000-style crank on it; vast improvement over that little bitty standard handle.
I'll be taking off the 65# TUF-Line next year and replacing it with something else. Too many tip wraps. |

| 6500CS-Mag (International series)....best reel they make...better than a Morrum. It's built like a tank.
6500UC (two of 'em)...I put power crank handles on them and use them for bulldawgs. Never had a problem with these reels.
The new C5....6500C5-Mag...I'm having problems with it. It grinds...sending it in next week.
Can't wait to get a my new International reels in...should be soon. I'm getting another 6500CS-Mag and the Abu Garcia Rocket. It's amazing that Abu Garcia's best reels are hard to get here in the US. |

| On its second season my abu 6500c4 is falling apart, as well as my new this season 6500c3. I just bought a corsiar 400a for something different. It hasnt' been on the water yet, but it feels smooth. Where do you people send your abus to get repaired? How much does it usually cost to get them repaired? Also, I have a new abu spinning reel, the blue one with 5 bearings, its not very big, but it is smoooooooth and casts far. |

| 5500c sucks.
6000c its alright. Maybe if i used it more I would like it plan to here soon.
Calcutta 400. Had no problems and the smoothest reel i have picked up yet. Kly is right it seems with age it got smoother. But when I oiled it it seemed like it wasn't as smooth any more for some reason but now back to normal. What happened? I oiled the gears on accident I don't think you should do that but It didn't really hurt. |

| 5601 c4 - been to the shop once.
6501 c3 - working well
Catala 401 - Smooth feeling reel, cast great, worth the c-note. Will most likely be my choice of reels in the future.

| Best reels this year have been my ABU 5600 UC's as they were last year(though the drags seem to be wearing out on 2 of the older ones). Starting to get a bit rough, but still holding, and still my favorites. My morrum took another crap(minor one as the reel handle pulled off fighting a big fish in Canada). My Calcutta(after its 5th time back to Shimano, what a wonderful drag system now) has been wonderful, aside from every 50th cast or so, it engages before the cast is complete(is there a way to fix that, please email advice). Also loved my Daiwa LCW's for their 4th year with me and no problems(awesome drags as well) |

| I have three abu's
2 5600 C4 Mag trax [:p] []
very nice reels with a smooth Drag and can you beileve that I got them on EBay for 49.00!!!
No Problems at all.
1 5600 anti backlash.
Works great when the anit backlash gears are removed. I have complained to Abu that it is a good system, Just needs to be toughend up. When you want to shut the think off, it turns its self back on[:(] [:(] [:(] |

| I got this calcutta 250 I beefed up . Put them 6.3:1 gears inner and a dartanium drag washer.I'm sorry but this reel slams.Got 2 400's great reels but not without flaws. The calcutta series lacks the typical anti reverse pawl. These reels rely solely on the supper stopper roller bearing. This bearing is caged inside a housing surrounded by a series or ramps that actually squeeze the crank handle shaft. If you fish like me you will have to replace these parts every 2 yrs.,including the right side plate. In response to the other problem about crank engageing mid cast, replace spring#1227 this might help. This tiny spring gets weak. Also got a hcl 6500 Big Game 6.3:1 it will smoke hair. I think I'll go throw myself down a flite of stairs now.........Razer |

| 3 reels:
Abu 6601 C4 Cabela's version: smooth over two seasons, but I take pretty good care of it. Couple of times the screws worked loose on the sideplate. Annoying, but casts great.
Abu 5601 C4 Cabela's version: No problems with this one and it casts great.
Calcutta 251: smooth as silk and casts great.
Next week, hopefully Calcutta 401TE or Daiwa Millionaire CVZ! |

No reel problems this year.
My dad has two penns' great reels and i would not hesitate to buy one if I need another reel. My shimano spirex reels are 5 years old and have caught 100's of fish and still holding up. |

| Shimano Curado. I know its a bass reel, but its like a brick sh-t house built on a sunday afternoon. |
|
| |
|
| 4 c-3's (trolling)
2 c-4's
1 uc 5600
1uc 6500
2 cvz's
No complaints with any of them. |

|
| 2 6500C (1982 & 1986) - still going strong after a few hundred fish [:)]
1 6500 GR (1988 w/graphite side plates and anti-backlash magnets) - needs an overhaul
1 6500 C3 (mid '90's) - drag system stinks w/plastic washers
1 Corsair 400 A - the jury's still out on this one..doesn't perform as well as my early version 6500's on big fish |
|
| |
|
| Abu's built solid, all of them C3, C4's and my favorite, the 5600Ultrac Cast...Abu should have never stopped making this reel....
I know this is a technically a bass reel, but the Shimano Curado is great for throwing bucktails and the lighter stuff! This is a rock - solid reel!
