Hello Guys

A member from MuskyHunter board told me to ask this question here.
I was wondering if someone could tell me an easy way how to paint over a lure. I'm looking to paint only the belly of the lure in Orange. What type of spray paint if any should I use and Do I have to apply any clear code to it.

shooying over chartreuse. pull hooks. tape lure. spray orange spray bomb, cover with clear. normally envirotex.

Do I see a new Krisco in this picture? I have a couple of different paints that I use for the red on the belly. Do you have a airbrush or do you want something in an aresol can?

Hi
That is one our factory finishes on the Krisco. i haven’t painted over any yet. So im not exactly sure how the spray can paint will react to the factory clear cote. But here is what I suggest as this works with most finishes.
Remove hooks just makes life easer. Scuff the belly with a scuff pad or sand with 400 grit sand paper, you just want to rough up the clear so the paint will adhere. Spay (several light coats) of the orange. Wait about 10 min between coats or when the paint looks dry. Most spray cans should work. Id use enamel. Try testors model paint I think they have a fluorescent orange and the clear is built into the paint so you won’t need a top cote.
Some of the fluorescent spray can paints are chalky and will need to be cleared.
If you want a thinner orange belly and don’t have an air brush, just mask off the sides and paint or just use a paint brush. it wont look as nice but the fishies wont care. good luck and the most important is the scuff. i will try some paint overs and let you know how they worked.
Oh that pattern would look great with some orange on the belly.

Steel wool the nice shiny clear coat until it's all scuffed up. (After removing hooks)
Tape the sides of the lure. Go buy 2 cans of Testors paint from the hobby store. Buy white primer and give it light coats until it's white. Painting orange over chartreuse won't give you a bright orange, but painting over white will. Let them dry and do the same with the orange. If you were smart, you bought some clear when you bought the other 2, now spray that on and T your hooks.
Watch out not to build up a lot of clear. More doesn't always mean better, especially when you are spraying.
That's what I would do.

An orange belly would be sweet on that bait. But I'd tie it on and wear the finish off of it before painting over it. I bought a Krusher in the chartreuse belly shad color and it turned out to be a fish catching machine! I actually painted a couple of old lures up in the same color scheme.

Thank you guys for the tips I will do it this comming weekend. George W where I fish that pattern is not so hot. I always had some luck with orange belly patern so I will give it a shot.

I would use an ultra fine scotch brite pad to scuff your clear, just rough the clear up a bit, Go to you local hobby store and get yourself a cheap air brush that is fed from an aerosol can (testors has one). Mask your lip on the Krisco. Practice on a piece of card board until you see how the airbrush will react. Start at the bottom of the bait and move straight up in one motion passing the lip. Do this until you get what you are looking for on the bait. House of Kolors has a really cool orange/red. It is on the Super Cisco and the HellHound shown below. Painted these two this weekend.
