I am mounting a new radio (lowrance) on a 617vs T Ranger and the install book says to keep the radio and the antenna at least 3 feet apart and as far away from other electronics as possible. So I want to mount the radio on the port side. The antenna instructions makes no mention of distance between the two. The best location for the radio and antenna leaves 16 inches between them any +or- having them this close together? I have done this on other boats and did not notice any interference.

no difference for me either. one thing to watch inerference from other electronics. we also prefer 8ft antennaes. they will get out up to 25 miles on big waters.

Location: Stones throw away...finally!!
My marine band is 12" below my radio and graph, and probably 18" from the mount on the 8' stick. Not saying you might not have issues, but I have not had any issues to date.

What you do need to do is keep the radio antenna 3ft from the gps puck or the igps unit. You will get some weird things happening on your radio otherwise. Also, make sure you keep the wire the full length from the antenna for maximum reception as well as soldering the end on correctly. I rig boats professionally and these are my 14 years of observations.

clarification, do not cut the antenna wire, zip tie it in a bundle and do not zip tie it to the tranducer wires. keep it free and clear of the transducer wires and all wires for that matter for no interference.
