Subject: French Lake (MN) help

I'm going to hit French this weekend with my dad. Never fished it and wondering what I should expect. Lures or colors? Also anyone know about the current state of the weed growth or water temps, etc.

Yes, I promise to post a detailled report when I get back. No Lake X stuff here.

Thanks,
Bill

Bill, plenty of cabbage on French during the normal year. Haven't been there yet, so I'm not sure how the veg is this season. Stick with the edges of the beds, especially those near deep water. Last June brown or black 'tails worked well, with my Mepps Muskie Killer doing best for me. In past seasons chart or yellow Wades Wobblers have done well too.

Good luck!

If the water temp is still below 65 I'd suggest twitching small crankbaits along the edges. The NW corner of the lake has a nice breakline. There's also two huge reefs/points that protrude from the N and S ends. If the water's a bit warmer then these could be good especially early and late in the day.

I'd appreciate a report on the water level - last fall it was very low and you could barely get your boat in at the public ramp.
