How deep does a Storm kickin' slab run and how durable are they? I am planning on hunting down some of those big pike that the crappie fishermen complain about in the spring. Anyone have any experience with these?

Thanks
Jacob

I third this, I have one and sure the tail kicks in the water but because there is only one slit for action, the action really isn't all that good. Are the crappies that are normally getting eaten by the pike suspended? if so I would get a crappie colored manta and you should be good to go.

I agree with Billy. The action was not good. Very subtle, nothing like the kickin minnow which is a much better bait.

Thanks guys, I think I will avoid them. No the crappies are not suspended, they actually run up into shallow canals in the spring and the musky and pike come in and gorge themselves on them. I hear nothing but complaints and "big" fish stories from them. Countless tails of 50" pike snapping thier poles..... I have seen the poles getting snapped but I am really doubting thier ability to estimate fish size I am sure there are several nice mid 30" fish up in there 50's I am a bit skepitcal about although the PA state record did come from there so who knows.

Thanks again!

nope I am talking about the canals at conneaut lake on the north end. In the spring the slabs run up in there and possibly spawn I am not sure... I'm not a panfisherman but my old neighbor was and he lost a couple big pike and a couple rods bringing in crappie. I figure why not get in on the action and have some fun..... I tried it last spring but did not get onto anything because I did'nt know my a$$ from my elbow and did not know what to look for and where to find them. I am hoping I am a year wiser and can get some steel in a few. How is the zoo for musky? I have not heard much on it....

I think the best thing to do is put a big crappie on a quick-strike rig and that should do the trick:)

Good luck Jacob

I agree that they don't have much action on their own, but still have enough to work. I actually designed a custom spinner for the front of them (and any other soft or hard bait) and it is one of my favorite baits because it looks so nice in the water. I attached picture of it. I used it at the Vermilion outing and caught a 42" Musky, had 3 follows and missed another with it in one day. I was using much larger baits the rest of the trip. Let me know if anyone is interested in a spinner. The bait is also pretty durable as the storm baits are much stronger then most plastics on the market today.

This is the buegill version, I was using the crappie version in Vermillion.
