actually muskies havent improved at all the panfishing in Minneapolis lakes,,,the panfish continue to be about 5 to the pound if that,,,even in the tiger lakes with tigers having a higher feed rate the panfish are horribly stunted I think the dnr was hoping panfish may come back because we used to catch decent ones out of them when I was a kid. actually the best predator in those systems is 'imigrants" they take everything home in their buckets unfortunitly game fish too.

Location: Milwaukee, WI
We probably all agree that pressure is steadily increasing everywhere, for all species. At places where I fish, the ramps are usually crowded.

In my case, I usually spend about 21 days on the water, evenly split between Wisc and Ontario.

Why is it that I can't remember being checked for a license in years, let alone what is in my creel ???

I say, raise the price to fish and channel that money into more enforcement. However, I do agree with the previous person who stated that mis-appropriation is a fact of life in govt today.

I get checked for liscense every year or so and that's enough for me. I have a creel census guy ask about my catch probably 6 or 7 times a year. FYI in Wisconsin the Wardens do not have the authority to search your livewell without your permission so maybe thats why you haven't had them check it.

Be careful of what you wish for. When you talk about a stamp for muskie fishing; you are identifying the number of anglers that actually target muskies in a state. When the people at the top realize how small a community we are, they may decide that money is better to be spent elsewhere. Why would you ban other forms of power/pleasure boats. Sure they dont always cooperate with us muskie anglers or any anglers for that matter, but with that being said I sure dont want all of them muskie fishing. Sounds less than ideal to me! Brian.

geez, it is just fishing. Musky fishermen can be so self-righteous. The C&R lectures get so very old. Especially from guys to pound the water mercilessly, inadvertently killing fish in the process of indulging their egos. See, I'm a self-righteous lecturing musky fisherman!

every system is a little different. lake and river structures are different. . the bio-diversity of a system can be dictated bye feed, water temps and even overharvest. just recently ontario put limits on channel cats, crappie and yellow perch. the great lakes system is actuall commercialy fished. thru sound management and biology we have had centuries of good fishing. mother nature herself is the main proponnent. if we have bad spawns, water temps that totally influences the next 3rd year harvest. as for no commercial fished species, muskies and such, we had a large increase. one of the problematic factors is disease.. so it relly is a fine line to walk. if we had more decent input from scientest, biologists and money to implement all would be good.. smaller lakes can be greatly affected to overharvest and pressures. as for muskies buffalo harbour is a classic fact.. just some ramblings in my head guys.
