what do you think of the amount of muskie sites on the internet? there are quite a few muskie sites and forums and almost every guide has a forum. do you think this is a good thing or should only be a couple sites be online? what are the differences between the websites? im new to the internet world of muskie fishing and think it is pretty interesting since there are not many muskie fishermen compared to other fishermen. please leave some examples and your opinions. refer to some sites but do not leave names of them in order to have a discussion. thx!

Location: Illinois | the more the better what do you mean do I think there should only be a couple sites online? the ones I visit all have their place, I suggest...you have a looksee yourself maybe you'll like some more than others- okay? Everyone knows where this post is leading- bash that site, bash this guides forum, praise so and so's website, can we just fast forward and send this one to the basement?

the internet is what it is...information. forums are a piece of the internet where much of the information is provided by the users themselves; that's the model of information exchange we encourage and use here on MuskieFirst. it's ultimately up to the reader to determine whether or not the source of any post is providing good or useful information. obviously, we like the way we do things here on MuskieFirst and believe that we provide something useful and appealing. lots and lots of visitors everyday seem to agree. at the same time, other sites have good things to offer as well - and it doesn't have to be an either/or proposition. more sites is good, there's plenty of room and all are welcome in "cyberspace".

Posts: 1636 | As you can see if you check out the guides websites, those forums are mainly for discussion about the guide service and waters they fish... maybe a little more. I've always liked checking out the guides forums, especially Chad Cains since he and the other guides usually post fishing reports. The internet is a tool just like your boat and lures... just another way to help you put fish in the boat. The information is always here unless its deleted. If you have a quick question, post it on MuskieFIRST and you usually have a few replies right away.

Thanks for the info Reelwise! So you think that the websites Guides offer generally are better for finding reports and current lake conditions? That's a good idea, check the guides sites for more specific reports, and the bigger sites like this one for ideas and techniques! Great thanks!

Posts: 3156 | I got on when they first came out about 98,,,,actually I think theres less BIG sites,,,we used to have heavy traffic on Musky Central,,Muskies101, Muskynut,,,now the main ones seem to be Musky Hunter and Muskiefirst and then a bunch of far less used ones,,,and like ive said before were losing shows too,,,the Stevens point,Minn/Chi extreme shows, the Lacrosse show and Pittsburgh, which seems strange since the sport "seems" to be growing Edited by happy hooker 12/19/2008 9:47 AM

the sport is growing, alot. Just because shows are shut down doesn't mean the sport isn't growing. It just means the attentance was very low. Female sports are growing and growing, yet their attendance sucks at pro games.

it's pretty common for growth in any area to include periods of consolidation. ie., there's explosive growth for awhile, then people sort out which things they like and don't like and things seem to shrink down a bit. this is often followed by another surge of growth based on innovation and new ideas taking things in new directions... ...so what do you think is the next direction that interest in muskie fishing will experience?

Posts: 32919 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | The Extreme shows were on target, just were too late and not well enough attended because of the lock the three shows they were competing with have on their market areas. 'Muskie' is the fastest growing fresh water fishing segment in the market.

Posts: 619 | Internet sites are great and fun. I agree the sport is growing ,IMO, wont be long till it decreases though.. in MN pressure has increased significantly and becoming harder and harder for weekenders and semi serious anglers to catch fish which some will quit or become less interested.

Posts: 4053 Location: Land of the Musky | As long as my website keeps coming up #1 or #3 in Google for "musky lure" the more the merrier ![]() In all honesty it will be interesting to see if the economy thins out the heard from fishermen to businesses in the next 2-4 years. From listening to many economists we are "in it" for at least a few years if not 4-5... I wonder if next year you will find 0 to 2 boats on your favorite spot vs 5-8 boats you saw in 2007 & 2008???

Posts: 7069 Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | I'll allow others to pontificate as to whether or not the sport as a whole is growing and the positives and negatives to their conclusions on this subject. I'll comment though on the growth or retraction of the number of muskie-focused internet forums. MuskieFIRST opened their "doors" on July 2nd, 2001 and prior to, and since then there have been a large number of muskie-focused websites, and sites with dedicated pages/sections focused around muskies and musky fishing. Some have come and gone, some are still up and running. Those that are up and running with active traffic each have their own identity and "feel" to them. Personally, I think that's a great thing. The internet can be a place for many different types of interactions, sometimes it's pure information exchange, sometimes its for networking/friend interactions, and sometimes it's a more private setting. Each site chooses to run their entity in their own way, with their own direction, and from that each site becomes and grows to what it is. At MuskieFirst we just focus on making our own property one which provides the most and best content that we can to those who choose to frequent our site. We appreciate the visitors and their contributions to this site. Of course, we will never be all things to all people. However, we do hope that what we offer will lend something positive to as many people as possible. Sometimes that will be in the form of information about how, where and with what to catch muskies. Other times that will just be a place to look at pictures of other people's catches, and a place to post stories of successes and failures. Some will indulge in the contests that we run, attend the outings that we put on, or will become involved in MatchFishing. And some will just come here for camaraderie with other muskie fisherman. Other web sites directed towards muskie fisherman will undoubtedly provide other things that we do not, and that is the wonder of the internet: there are so many places to visit and hopefully one fills whatever it is that you are looking for. We do put a lot of time and effort into try to make MuskieFIRST a place that muskie fisherman want to go and enjoy. Hopefully that will only grow with time.
