Posts: 431 | I'm stocking up on some believers and depthraiders. When do most of you prefer jointed v. straight. I'm going to stick with some straight depthraiders for fishing through timber and weeds. I think they will bounce off trees better and rip through weeds better. I've got a few jointed believers, but no straight believers. Are there times where the straight model is better? What do you think, jointed or straight in the depthraider and believer? Posts: 1169 Location: New Hope MN | I like the look of the jointed, but I've caught more using the straights. The straights are better in the weeds too. I would like to hear what others think on this as well.

Posts: 1749 Location: Mt. Zion, IL | The straight models dive 3-4 ft deeper as well. This can be helpful if you are trying to bounce off the bottom or cover deeper water. While I have jointed models in both the DR and the Believer, I am going to get some straight models once I saw the difference in diving depth (according to drifter's website).

love crank bait fishing and what i'll do is cast and erratically rip, twitch and pause a straight crank-bait on fish when they are moving and/or more aggressive ... if fishing is slow, neutral or negative i'll go to a straight retreive method using jointed crank baits ... it's worked for me. also, will use ddd's in deeper water without weeds and then go to raiders if there is anything that needs to be ripped through. the raiders will hold their action through some of the nastiest stuff. have to rip aggresively to try to "clean the bait" on the retrieve but it's still working for you ... and the fish.

IMO, I have found what I like means zilch, it's what the muskies want to eat, some days straights and some days jointed let them tell you what they want, I have one of each out, when they want you to know you will; and the catches usually double. Ben Edited by MuskyFix 12/11/2008 9:25 PM

Posts: 4266 | I caught quite a few muskies early in the season up in Vilas County on 6" Radtke Pikie Minnows. Those are jointed lures, and all that I had to do is cast them out and reel them in. If I catch fish on straight lures, I'm usually working them somewhat like a glider or jerkbait. Reel, reel, rip, yank, pull etc. I don't believe that there is a rule that you have to follow, but some people will tell you differently. I adjust the speed of the lure to the temp of the water, but I'll throw them both all season long. Don't over-think it. Beaver
