was this weekend the end for you? any cooperative muskies out there??? Do not go gentle into that good night, Old age should burn and rave at close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Though wise men at their end know dark is right, Because their words had forked no lightning they Do not go gentle into that good night. Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay, Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight, And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way, Do not go gentle into that good night. Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay, Rage, rage against the dying of the light. And you, my father, there on the sad height, Curse, bless me now with your fierce tears, I pray. Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Posts: 2323 Location: Stevens Point, WI | Well, my report isn't exactly muskie related seeing I know of no water north of Highway 64 that is open so I said screw deer season and pulled out the Strikemaster and headed to the ice. Pointerpride, myself and some other college buddies, a total of five of us had one heck of a tip up spread Friday afternoon. Tip up action was almost nonstop for us. We had 15-20 flags, only icing four walleyes. The fish seemed finicky so we had some drops but the ones we iced, were nice. Buddy Dan iced a 24 beauty but we decided to return her to the lake. We kept three walleyes between us, all 17 inches and larger, a couple of real nice perch and about a four pound Pike. All fish coming in about a hour and half span or so. Enough fish to make a decent meal. I will definitely be back hopefully this weekend after the walleyes but also the big perch. The perch were caught on tip ups with shiners. Fish were right on the weed edge in about seven feet of water. Here is a picture of a few of the fish we caught. Probably should of pulled a jig rod out and put a few more of those perch on the ice. I'm off to Indiana for a three day muskie trip Thursday after class. Can't wait to be back on soft water for what will probably be my last time for the season. I got out in the city for the last time this year and managed a few fish while dodging scim ice. No monsters but nice to catch a ski on the last trip of the year. Attachments ---------------- November29th,2008 004b.jpg (61KB - 57 downloads) November29th,2008 002b.jpg (77KB - 59 downloads)

Greg S, That picture of the barge on Green Bay is awesome. In the third photo, we were in the boat that is farthest in the background, right in front of the bow of the barge. When we went by the barge, we commented that the lighter colored boat (what appeared to be an Alumicraft) was going to be pretty close to the barge as we went past it on both sides. I was standing up in front of his 619...small world. We fished until 8:00 PM last night with nothing in the boat. It was our first time there and we lost one that we never got to see. The line ripped off, I lifted the rod and felt the fish do a couple head shakes while Dave was clearing a couple lines and then it was off. It was on for about 15 seconds is all, but it was promising. We DID get to net a nice 51.5" x 24" fish for the guy that was out there in an Esox Magnum, though. His name was Pat and while we were going by him we notice him start fighting the fish and called out to see if he wanted help since he was alone. He said SURE! so we turned the boat and nosed up to him and netted the fish from the front of our boat. It was a nice fat fish. Another boat came up behind us and took photos as we held the boats and took photos of his fish. It sounded like the third boat was going to be posting those on this site, I hope so. I do want to comment on how well Pat did with his fish handling. He had the basics down to a science. Fish in the net and in the water, tools, ready, cut hooks from the fish, girth measurement, tried to check the length in the net but couldn't get a reasonable one so we offered the bump board. When everyone was ready with camera, etc., he lifted it out for a measurement, photos taken and back in the water. His biggest before that was 51 even, so it was nice to see him get his new biggest. A few hand shakes, straightening of our lines and we got back to it. Both the fish we lost and the 51.5 came from the edge of the main channel just up on the flats in about 5 - 8 feet of water. A great way to end the season, try new water and see a pig get caught. I'll tuck the boat in for the winter and wait for snow. The sled is ready to go. Jeff Blanck

Posts: 3 | Yesterday when I left Monona I counted 20 trailers at Olin.....wow too many. This morning at 6:45am I counted one...mine. Hit my usual spots with Bulldawg, Suzy Sucker and Mag Slow Tease.....nothing. With the weather/barometer I thought I have to try something else because conditions seemed perfect. Switched to a jointed depthraider and 8th cast.......went to make the 3rd twitch and slack line.....hmmm....couple of quick cranks and twitch again.....headshake! Awesome strike and fight. Not big by most standards but 43inch and considerably heavier than the 42 I caught a month ago and MY new biggest. Great way to end the season!!!!!!!! The pic of the barge is sweet. I was in the Alumacraft playing chicken (that pic looks like we were alot closer than we were). We were up for 2 days had 3 rips with one being a really good snag, one getting off, and my wife boated a 50.5. She was scared to hold it after it did a death roll coming out of the net almost dislocating my shoulder. Attachments ---------------- Kathy50.jpg (86KB - 59 downloads)

Yesterday when I left Monona I counted 20 trailers at Olin.....wow too many. This morning at 6:45am I counted one...mine. which boat were you in, mike? we launched there at 9am, only two other rigs there at the time. looks like a couple more made it out later. i was out with Bigman, and raised an undersized and a 40ish on a Wabull, had a 33-34 grab a sucker but let go, and another mid-30s follow a sucker for a bit. all fish came off the weed edges, we trolled deeper water for awhile but couldn't find any baitfish concentrations so went back to the shallow stuff. the wind got things going pretty good out in the basin there for awhile mid-afternoon before the snow started... Posts: 1764 Location: Ogden, Ut | Took a trip to Pineview in honor of the last day of the season in Wisconsin. Air temp was about 48, water 43; mostly cloudy with WNW winds at about 10. I trolled the baitfish schools and managed to entice one fish to the net. Had a fake Spotted Cow to celebrate. Looks like I will have a couple of weeks of open water left. The weather isn't looking like it's going to turn nasty any time soon. S. Posts: 25 | We fished Friday on the Susquehanna River in Central PA. Water levels really low, the lowest I’ve ever seen. No ice on the water as of 11/28, we didn’t get a temp reading. No luck in the morning working crankbaits (grandmas) really fast, which has worked well in the past in late fall/winter on the Susky. I switched up to a dawg and got a small one around 20 inches and a decent 35 incher. Working the dawg pretty slow, this fish hit just as the bait was starting to fall, as I started to lower the rod tip to start another sweep the bait got crunched! Posts: 3 | I'm in a white/blue Lowe FM175/90Johnson. I saw a Tracker motor past midlake that eventually trolled by later on along the rockpile....your boat looks like a Ranger though? It was a great morning, the weather just felt right. I left the lake at about 11am and there were 3 boats that had just launched prior to reaching the dock. I didn't even bother with suckers the last 2 days. I didn't see another fish.....the one I caught was off gradual rock point.

Posts: 7 | Thanks for the great net job, and the help landing my biggest fish ever. Tried to get out today but the water was too ruff for the Tuffy Marader. Hope to have a bigger boat for next season (Tuffy 1890). It sure was great to end the season with a 51.5 incher, can't wait for next season, in the mean time will enjoy the hunt for some hard water pike. Hope to see you out there next season!

Posts: 619 Location: Verona, WI | Was on Monona like everyone else fishing in Madison. Lots of wind and snow. Mainly trolled the western shoreline and called it a day after three hours. Had a weird thing happen. In 37 ft of water fishing a Legend Perchbait with 75 foot of line out had the rod go off. I could not get that thing unsnagged for the life of me. The odd thing is that bait is not supposed to be anywhere near the bottom (according to the Trolling Secrets dive curve).

Shane, You may have snagged onto one the swimming bouy anchor ropes they use for the Ironman Tri. Instead of lefting them up like their suppose to they just cut them every year when their done.

Posts: 153 | I was out with muskysucker1 and his wife in Green Bay Sat am, no luck . Had to leave at noon only to get a phone call around 3:30pm as I pulled into my garage that his wife bagged a 50. Just my luck. I did get even today, muskysucker1 took a pass on going to GB, sure could have used a netman. I put 5 in the boat-39.5, 40.75. 41, 42.75 and 44.75 and lost one at the boat due to the net getting caught in the trolling motor. The fish came over two feeding windows, one in the morning around moonrise (10 am) and the second feeding 1-1:30pm. Also caught 4 pike. Not a bad way to end a great season. Photos aren't the best, I am trying to figure out the self timer thing. Location: Illinois | We fished Indiana's Barbee Chain on Saturday with hopes finishing the year off right. We fished long and hard but nary a musky would eat our suckers below. The picture shows just how icy it was getting to the main lake (where open water finally was). no luck, but silently we did NOT go into that good night! Mike

Location: Twin Cities | My report is the same as Mike's. ^^ Great picture, looks like my weekend too! No fish would commit though, we did 5-6 hours of casting and trolling and suckers and nothing. At least we tried, was REALLY hoping for a different end to the year!

Posts: 688 Location: Northern IL | Shane, Sorry to hear of your loss, I think I know exactly where you snagged up because I also ran into it last week. I figured it was another anchor rope. However I got my bait back with the help of my lure retriever but didn't get the rope snagged. Next time chances are real good I'll get that anchor and your bait as well, I get em all the time. A few days before I was on Mendota trolling for pike and snagged up 2 anchors, and got back both baits as well. Posts: 350 Location: WESTERN WI | 2T Citter, Nice job on the last day of the 08 season. Maybe it was a blessing that you didn't even bother trolling much w/ the kicker situation. It was good you were out there since you kept us entertained with all of the fish you had going. We were making a pass right by you and I thought you were screwing around with that big hookset until the water erupted! Getting off the water was not fun with the iced up ramps at the Yacht Club and the 3 foot rollers. It was still good to get out. Take it easy, Steve (sent you a PM)
