Sad time. He was always nice to me from get go. Every Expo or at Thornes shop I got that smile welcome hand shake. Always opened with "How life on the island"?

Posts: 129 Location: North Metro - Twin Cities | Like many others getting into muskie fishing big in the mid eighties, I joined the TC chapter of Muskies Inc.. George along with many others where there to help us new guys along and make us feel welcome. To a 15 year old kid, George, Rick, Dave, and the other veterans where the equivalent of pro athletes! I also had a chance to interact with George while I was working at Thorne Bros. in the early nineties. I remember him telling a story of hooking and releasing the same 49 inch fish on Whitefish Bay on the same Eagle Tail two or three days in a row if I remember correctly. The key to the story was he water released the fish each time with no or minimal handling. She even followed again one last time but finally had enough. He was a great ambassador for the sport and many a trophy fell to his lures. Best wishes to his family.

Posts: 2384 Location: On the X that marks the mucky spot | It's a very sad day indeed. George has done so much for MI and the muskie resource over the decades that a guy could probably write a book. IMOP he's the type of guy that a lot of up and coming muskie anglers should look to emulate. I hope that I can earn 1/2 the respect from my piers that he has. Good journey George.

Posts: 531 Location: Hugo, MN | Very sad to hear. I've had the opportunity to fish with a great group of guys from the TC Chapter every July in Minaki. George was not able to make it this year due to his failing health, and was missed by all. I'll always remember his theory on a world record muskie. "God made guys my size, and the size of Shaquille O'Neal. I'd like to think there's a few Shaquille O'Neals swimming out there right now." Great guy, very humble, and always a story to share. He'll be missed.

Posts: 221 Location: Detroint Lakes, MN | One of the MN legends. Stayed at a lodge he frequented on Whitefish Bay, eveyone there thought the world of George. Beautiful place, I can see why he loved being there outside of the huge muskies he was chasing. He really cared, and was a genuine guy. JS
